Ladies 1st Team: Exe 2-3 Tavistock Player of the Match George Patterson

Tavistock claimed an important win away at Exe in what turned out to be an extremely competitive and hard fought game.  Tavistock went into the game full of confidence following their victory against Exe in the Devon Cup 2 weeks ago and started well having the majority of the early possession. The visitors were unable to create any clear cut chances in front of goal and the home side looked dangerous on the counter attack, their quick forwards showing the potential to cause problems for Viggers and her back line. The opening goal did come from the home side with another quick attack down the left before working the ball to the baseline and across into the D, the Exe forwards reacted quicker and scored from close range. Tavistock scored the equaliser through captan Laura Armstrong, other chances had come their way but a combination of good goal keeping and some brave defending on the line at penalty corners had prevented another goal.  Tavistock did go in 2-1 up at half time when, with just 5 minutes remaining Robynne Fenwick converted from a penalty corner.  Tavistock scored a third goal just before the half way point of the second half when forward Jo Gaspar found herself unmarked at the back post and showed the composure to score with her reverse stick.  Tavistock continued to press the opposition back line, Mills-Hicks and Scott also looking solid in the Reds midfield.  Centre back George Patterson was Tavistock's player of the match, although the defence looked strong and were able to deal comfortably with the majority of Exe attacks the home side did win a number of penalty corners late on.  With just three minutes remaining Exe converted from a penalty corner to set up a tense finish but fortunately for Tavistock there was not enough time left for the equaliser and they held on to claim all 3 points.

Men's 1st Team: Tavistock 4-0 United Services MoM Paul Marchant

Tavistock put in a solid first half performance and went on to claim all 3 points.  The home side started quickly and looked keen to capitalise against an under strength United Services side.  The first goal came when Si Fenwick flicked a penalty corner high to the keepers left, a second soon followed when Ollie Richards scored following some fine individual skils from skipper Tom Honey. The home side could have scored more but were denied by some last ditch defending and the post, by the end of the match the Reds had hit the frame of the goal on five occasions.  The third goal arrived when Si Fenwick converted from a penalty stroke which was awarded when a U.S defender prevented a certain goal when the ball hit his body on the line after a well worked penalty corner routine.  The second half was not as free flowing as the first and only one goal was scored, a great strike from Andy Berry after some fine link up play with Mount Kelly College student  Megicks. The win means Tavistock now move onto 45 points with just six games remaining, although third place West Dorset won they can only reach a maximum of 45 points and currently have an inferior goal difference in comparison to Tavistock meaning one point will mathematically guarantee Tavistock promotion

Mens 2nd Team: Plymouth Marjon D 3   Tavistock A 2

This was certainly the “one that got away”!  After the previous weeks performance, Tavistock were confident in their abilities and new that this was a winnable game.  Tavistock weathered some early pressure, but were always dangerous on the break and did this with speed and precision.  The visitors went two down in the first half via two short corners, one of which took a wicked deflection a looped over the keeper. Pugsley was unlucky, but had a fantastic game in goal, show some real athleticism.  Tavistock did not lose any faith in their own chances and continued to press and attack via Elliott, Walker and Anning, the new star up front.  It was Elliott who scored a fine goal after some good work in the D and slotted the ball under the advancing keeper.  Tavistock pounded the home sides goal and chance after chance came but could not quite get over the line. Hanson and Honey continued to link well and advanced at speed, along with the competitive Stanyer.  The pressure finally found the just reward, when Donnelly worked the ball into the and the resulting shot hit the defenders foot on the line. The penalty flick was confidently slotted by Anning.  Tavistock were desperate for the win and with some further attacks left a few holes which allowed the opposite midfield  to counter attack and score a winning goal with minutes to go.  A great performance, but disappointment in the result that could have been so different.
