Ladies 1st Team: Devon Cup Taw Valley 3-6 Tavistock Player of the Match Janice Scott

Tavistock progressed to the Devon Cup quarter finals after this win away at Premier 2B opponents Taw Valley and will now face at Exe HC at home.  Tavistock started the quicker of the two teams and raced into a 4-0 lead within 20 minutes of the first whistle, the Reds were clearly up for the challenge of playing a team from a higher league and played their best hockey of the season in the opening few minutes of the game. Player of the match Janice Scott opened the scoring following a scramble in front of the Taw Valley goal, forward Becky Lamb scored the second after deflecting a fine reverse stick effort from Sarah Law. Lamb grabbed her second of the match to give Tavistock a 3-0 lead which capped another fantastic individual performance. Captain Laura Armstrong scored the fourth goal after yet another Tavistock attack, the Reds were in control of the game and looked like they could score from each attack on the home sides goal.  Taw Valley got themselves back into the game with two goals in the final seven minutes of the first half, the home side capatalised on a some loose passing from the visitors and took their chances well in front of goal and finished the half the stronger of the two sides.  Both teams knew the first goal of the second half would be crucial and thankfully for Tavistock it went their way, Armstrong scoring her second goal of the game with an excellent solo run and shot on goal which will surely be a contender for goal of the season. Tavistock wrapped up the win when midfielder Robynne Fenwick played a defence splitting pass to Lamb who the slipped the ball to Law to fire the ball past the keeper. The home side showed their quality and experience from playing in a higher league and kept playing and sccored the final goal of the game but it was too little too late from their point of view.  Both sides, as well as both umpires contributed to a well contested cup match which saw Tavistock progress to the next round.

Mens 1st Team. Tavistock 7-0 Sidmouth & Ottery

Tavistock kept their 100% winning record at home this season in tact following this victory against a strong Sidmouth & Ottery team.  The game was a fairly even contest early on with Tavistock having the better of the early chances on goal.  Tavistock skipper Tom Honey opened the scoring with a powerful shot from a penalty corner, forward Will Jones doubled the home sides advantage with a well taken reverse stick shot.  Tavistock knew they would have to improve their conversion rate in the second half if they were to add to their 2-0 lead, forward Barny Megicks kept his goal scoring run going with another cool finish following some excellent individual work from Dom Stanbury who had yet another top performance in midfield. Captain Honey and Jones both scored their second goals of the game to give Tavistock a 5-0 lead, with just five minutes remaining Richards and Fenwick combined well to allow Richards to get himself in the score sheet, Fenwick was provider again two minutes later when his pass sent Honey through one on one with the keeper, Honey showed his experience as he moved the ball around the keeper before sliding the ball into an empty net. At the half way point of the season Tavistock find themselves at the top of the leagues nine points clear of ISCA in second place.

Mens 2nd Team: Duchy A 5  Tavistock A 0

After last weeks win Tavistock were confident in their abilities, but knew that playing the team that were sitting 4th in the league, was going to be a tough game.  Although a heavy loss on paper, this was by no means a “back to the drawing board” performance.  Tavistock played the same hockey as recent weeks and controlled equally as much of the game and pitch as the Duchy side. Essentially the finishing was more clinical in the home sides attacks and Tavistock hit the post three times and missed a vertically open goal in the opening minutes.  The work rate from Tavistock was excellent and the positive control and passing led to long periods of possession. Elliott and Walker again had excellent performances up front, where they harassed the home defence and broke through on numerous occasions.  The midfield held the ball and created plenty of opportunities with Pugsley, Honey and Anning continuing to link well, with Hanson and Norman Tosdevin distributing well and turning defence into attack.  Dunlop showed again that he is turning into a real talent and Osborne showed his athleticism in a solid performance.
