Ladies 1st team - Devon Cup 1/4 Final

Tavistock 7-5 Sidmouth and Ottery Player of the Match Laura Armstrong

The game started quickly with Tavistock putting immediate pressure on Sidmouth, it didn't take long for Tavistock to seek their first opportunity with an unfortunate disallowed goal. Sidmouth hit the home sides defence quickly and opened up the score sheet with a 1-0 lead. With great work across the midfield from Scott, Bassett and Armstrong led the ball to Lamb who took a firing run up the pitch, played a square ball across the D to Gaspar who slotted past the keeper to bring Tavistock back into the game. Sidmouth came back with a second goal and then immediately put further pressure on the home sides defence, the ball was saved off the line by Mills-Hicks but unfortunately Sidmouth took it to 3-1 past keeper Viggars. Tavistock once again came fighting back with Colston making her trademark runs up the right hand side, slipped across to Armstrong who then set Lamb up nicely for her first goal of the game. With another goal taken by Sidmouth, this saw the 1st half closing with Tavistock on the back foot. Tavistock ladies came back into the second half looking strong after a stern half time talk from coach Fenwick and the late arrival of Nevin in the midfield. The home side opened up the second half with a well worked short corner from Lamb and Armstrong to reduce the deficit to just one goal. Shortly after this saw the forward line applying the pressure on the Sidmouth defence once again with a great run from Mount Kelly student Lindsay who took it passed two defenders and into the D which set Armstrong up with her second goal of the game. With Tavistock in high spirits this soon saw them looking dangerous once again in the D and a beautiful top corner shot from Lamb took them into the lead. Tavistock then followed this up with two more goals from Nevin and Donnelly to put the home side into a 3 goal lead. With only minutes remaining and both sides tiring it was Sidmouth who got the last goal in of the game to close the score at a 7-5 win for Tavistock. This win now takes Tavistock through to the semi finals of the Devon cup.

Men's 1st Team Tavistock 10-0 ECV Hornets MoM Sam Willetts

Tavistock maintained their 100% start to the season with an emphatic 10-0 win against ECV Hornets. The home side had to re shuffle their line up when centre back Dale Wood failed a late fitness test, skipper Tom Honey filled in at centre back and forward Si Fenwick replaced Honey in the centre of midfield.  The re-shuffle did not cause any problems as Tavistock started the match with a clear desire to score the opening goal and what a goal it was. When Sam Willetts picked up the ball on the left hand side of the pitch 30 yards from goal there appeared to be nothing for Hornets to worry about, Willetts had another ideas, and after beating the fourth defender he calmly smashed the ball past the keeper to score.  The lead was soon doubled when Mark Forshaw continued his fine scoring run flicking the ball high into the net from a penalty corner.  The lead should have been extended further but unfortunately for Tavistock Fenwick had a penalty stroke saved by the Hornets keeper. Soon after Tavistock did get their third goal when Willets deflected the ball past the keeper from a well worked penalty routine. Early in the second half Tavistock scored their fourth when Fenwick and Forshaw linked well at another penalty corner which resulted in Forshaw again flicking high into the net.  Skipper Tom Honey changed the formation half time moving himself into his more accustomed midfield role and it had the desired effect when he cooly flicked the ball past the keeper following more good work front the Reds frontline. A fine solo run and strike from Ollie Richards gave Tavistock a 6-0 lead mid way through the second half, fellow midfielder Dom Stanbury picked up a loose ball to score following a flick at goal from Megicks which had been well saved by the keeper. Megicks almost scored moments later following a run by Fenwick but as the ball was pulled back towards Megicks it was turned into the goal by the defender, the hard working Richards scored his second goal of the game after sprinting 50 yards to catch up with a quick Tavistock counter attack. After winning the ball on his own 25 yard line Stanbury turned  defence into attack with a quick run and long ball to Megicks who showed the composure to drive the baseline before slipping the ball to Richards to smash it into the goal.  It was fitting that the 10th and final goal was scored by Man of the Match Sam Willetts, after winning the ball in midfield Fenwick was able to take ball past a couple of defenders before finding Willetts who slapped the ball past the keeper to claim his first hat trick for Tavistock. With the scoring and obvious attacking threat coming from Tavistock their keeper Matt Grahame was rarely called into action, Sam Stanbury was yet again composed in the centre of defence which allowed Marchant, Carr and Macdougall the opportunities to step up and be involved in a number of attacking phases. Next week sees the league leaders travel to OPM's what is sure to be s tough and physical encounter before they then play host on Sunday to PGSOB A team in the Devon Trophy 12.30 at Mount Kelly.
