Ladies 1st Team: Tavistock 4-1 Exe
With regular goalkeeper Zoe Viggars unavailable the Reds were forced to re shuffle the pack for this home game, the most notable change was regular centre back Elz Mills-Hicks playing in goal. Captain Janice Scott replaced Mills-Hicks at centre back and new signing Erin Shillaw took on the responsibility of playing at centre half, Shillaw showed confidence and composure beyond her her 17 years of age. Tavistock opened the scoring early on when Laura Armstrong finished off a fine team move which started with great passing and movement from the backline of Boulle, Pollock, Scott and Colston. Tavistock were showing confidence on the ball and in each other which was exemplified with their short and quick passing out of defence to create a number attacking opportunities, one of which resulted in the second goal. Lottie Fulton was making her first appearance of the season and she capped a fine individual performance which a well struck shot from the top of the D to make the score 2-0. Former Mount Kelly Student Georgia Donnelly scored the third following another well worked goal, Donelly slapped the ball home after Gaspar and Lamb had linked together to open up the Exe defence. The visitors made a bright start to the second half and pulled one goal back with a well executed penalty corner, Mills-Hicks who put in a very assured performance was unable to do anything to prevent the goal on this occasion. The home side did not let the goal affect them and got back to passing the ball early in an attempt to open up their opponents and they were rewarded with a fourth goal when Armstrong added to her impressive goal tally for the season. The win puts Tavistock 10 points ahead of fifth placed Exe and should mean Tavistock can seal a top 4 finish still with rivals Plymouth University and PMHC to play.
Men's 1st Team: Tavistock 6-0 OPM's
Tavistock looked to bouce from the disappointment of their England Hockey Vase exit to Wootton Bassett and the plan was simple, win against OPM's and promotion would be secured. The visitors, despite being hit with injury and unavailability put in a strong performance but were not able to deal with the constant attacking threat of the Reds. The first goal was scored by skipper Tom Honey who found himself unmarked in the D before unleashing an unstoppable shot past the keeper, forward Will Jones doubled the lead when he ghosted in at the back post to finish off another incisive Reds attack. The home side scored and went in 3-0 up at half time, the third goal came from a slick penalty corner which was selected in by Sam Willetts. The second half followed a similar pattern with the home side enjoying the majority of the possession, the visitors keeper made a number of impressive saves and the main attacking threat for OPM's commg from Horton and the hard working West in midfield. Tavistock forward Si Fenwick scored twice in quick succession, his first was made easy thanks to a clever run from forward Bob Carr and the second following a fine solo run from Dave Langton. The best was certainly saved until last when goal scoring machine Mark Forshaw scored an incredible solo goal in the roof of the net from a right angle which left everyone asking "how did he do that"?
Men's 1st Team: Bodmin 1-4 Tavistock
Tavistock travelled to Bodmin for their second game of the weekend and again the game plan was simple, win and they would be crowned league champions for successive seasons. Tavistock took control from the outset and raced into a 2-0 lead, both goals coming from the reverse stick of Si Fenwick with right back Rory Carr claiming the assists for both goals. Tavistock played a disciplined game, maintaining possession and looking to create good scoring opportunities. Regular forward Sam Willettts stepped in a left back and was proving to be a an attacking threat from deep, centre backs Stanbury and Berry were dealing with all Bodmin threats and were looking assured on the ball. Carr claimed his third assist of the game when he unselfishly set up his brother Bob to make it 3-0, Carr deserved his goal after the post denied him from scoring fine solo goal earlier on in the game. Bodmin scored a penalty corner in the second half to pull one goal back which did not take away from the very impressive performance of Emlym Oxenham in goal, the 13 year old made his debut on Saturday against OPM's and showed confidence far beyond his years in both games over the weekend. Barny Megicks scored the fourth goal for Tavistock with a clever reverse stick finish. The win secured the league title for Tavistiock who still have four games to play, the Reds will look to keep their winning form going with the new objective of trying to all 22 league games this season. Player coach Si Fenwick was extremely happy to have secured the league title but said " I am sure with the effort and commitment the lads have shown this season they are all desperate to keep going and remain unbeaten".
