Ladies 1st team: Penzance 0 - 4 Tavistock - Player of the match:: Becky Lamb

Tavistock ladies made the long journey to Penzance, eager to get their first win of the season under their belts however with a new formation and only 11 players it was always going to be a hard fought game.
The women adjusted to the new formation quickly and the strength through the middle of the pitch allowed the players to put Penzance under immediate pressure. The opposition struggled to get through the tough Tavi press and lost the ball to Armstrong who then fed through to Donnelly. The Penzance keeper was under immediate pressure but managed to clear a shot off her pads.
Lamb opened the scoring running a straight line to the goal and hitting the top right corner of the net.
Tavistock continued to be the dominant team with Nevin, White, Lamb and Armstrong proving a formidable force and a second goal quickly followed for Lamb. The opposition found space down the left wing and threatened the Tavistock back line however Wood and Mills Hicks quickly swept up in defence. A third goal allowed Tavistock to take a comfortable lead as Lamb found the backboard a third time leading to her hatrick.
As the second half drew to a close, Tavistock were under more pressure in the middle of the pitch as a young Penzance player threatened the midfield however constant pressure from Bassett and Scott allowed the girls to regain control and once again find the midfield and forwards. A long corner hit in by Scott found Lamb on the penalty spot and Donnelly on the post and Tavistock scored their 4th goal of the game.
Tavistock continued to pressure the Penzance team right until the final whistle as a penalty corner was won, however this was not converted.
Work rate was high for all 11 players and this proved to pay off as the ladies came away with a 4-0 victory away from home.

Mens 1st Team: Truro 1-4 Tavistock - MoM Sam Willetts

Tavistock travelled to Truro looking to maintain their 100% start and keep top spot in the league and despite a below par performance they came away with the 3 points.  The Reds started brightly and should have taken the lead when Richards set up Fenwick however the he failed to hit the taget and the chance was missed.  Fenwick and Forshaw both had PC corner flicks saved by the keeper before the opening goal was scored by Will Jones.  Tavistock hit the home side with a quick counter attack when capatain Tom Honey found the Richards who in turn played Fenwick through against the keeper, the ball spilled to Jones who showed the composure to finish with his reverse stick after both Fenwick and Richards had been thwarted by the Truro defence.  The counter attack which led to the goal was started by man of the match Sam Willetts, Willetts who has been in terrfic form in the front line wass playing at left back due to the unavailabilty of Paul Marchant.  Despite playing in the backline, Willetts was still one of Tavistocks major attacking threats with some devasting runs from deep.  Tavistock eventaully converted from a penalty corner when Megicks scored from close range, the Reds won another penalty corner at the end of the first half which was converted by Forshaw with a low flick to the keeprs right hand side.  Tavistock were determined to put in a better second half performance and increase their conversion rate in front of goal however it was the home side who scored an early goal from a penalty corner. Tavistock had a number of chances in the second half with Carr, Fenwick, Honey, Forshaw and Richards all going close however it was Megicks who scored the only goal for the reds.  Megicks stole the ball off the last defender to leave himself one on one with the keeper, he showed composure beyond his years to cooly slot the ball past the keeper and claim his second goal of the game.  Next week will see Tavistock play host to Duchy, a game that involves the only two teams in the league to have won their opening three games.  Tavistock hope to welcome Paul Marchant back to the side but will be without influential Summer signing and todays MoM Sam Willetts.
