Ladies 1st Team: Tavistock 4-3 Teign
Tavistock hosted Teign in a friendly game in preperation for the start of the league season next week, the two teams met at the end of last season in the Semi Final of the Devon Cup which saw the higher league side defeat Tavistock 1-0. Tavistock were much changed from last season, the side welcomed back Robynne Fenwick and Sarah Law who both missed last season due to pregnacy, the side also featured Summer signing Amy Headon and youngster Alice Lamb who made her senior club debut just 2 days before her 14th birthday. The hosts raced in to an early lead thanks to forward Jo Gaspar, Gaspar was left unmarked to slot the ball home following impressive work from Hannah Nevin and a clever pass from Lamb senior, the lead was doubled soon after when Alice Lamb showed composure beyond her years to play in the hard working Nevin, when she fired the ball across the D it was forward Sarah Law who with an instinctive finish scored the second goal for the Reds. The visitors were probably not expecting such a fast paced start from the Reds and it took a while for them to get into the game however their experience showed as they capatalised on a defensive mix up to score their first goal of the game. Tavistock were looking good to go into the break with a one goal advantage but a typical run from Becky Lamb saw her beat two defenders before she unselfishly passed to Fenwick who calmly pushed the ball past the advancing keeper. Gaspar doubled her tally for the game after the visitors had scored, Gaspars second restored the two goal advantage for the Reds, despite Teign converting a late penalty stroke it wasnt enough to deny Tavistock their first win against Teign. Tavistock host Bodmin next Saturday at the Mount Kelly College astro in their first league game of the season.
Mens 1st team: PMHC 1-5 Tavistock
Tavistock made the short trip to Marjons for this friendly against the side that finished in second place behind them in South 1 last season, it was also a preview of the league opener when in two weeks time the fixture will be repeated. Tavistock fielded a very strong side despite missing the likes of Honey, Richards, Chevin, Berry and R Carr, the opening 20 minutes saw Tavistock dominate the possession and territory but they failed to convert any chances - Forshaw, B Carr and Megicks all going close. The hosts took the lead with their first and only attempt on goal in the first half, Tavistock continued to apply pressure and just before the break were rewarded when a clever touch from Carr set up Forshaw who took one touch to control the ball before firing the ball past the Marjons keeper. The second half saw the visitors score another four goals, the pick of which was a spectacular solo run from Sam Willetts who smashed the ball into the roof of the net following a 30 yard run with the ball. B Carr was rewarded for ever impressive hard work with goal, Josh Walker scored a second half double to complete the 5-1 scoreline. With one more week left of pre seson the back to back league champions are looking strong as they prepare to play in Conference South for the first time in the clubs history.
