National Recognition for M1's

Tavistock Hockey Clubs Men's 1st team have been shortlisted for the England Hockey Team of the year, the winners of all the England Hockey awards will be presented on the 21st May at the awards ceremony at the Madejski stadium in Reading. The team have been recognised by the sports National Governing Body for their achievements this season which saw the team win all 22 of their league games as well as reaching the Semi Final of the Devon Trophy and the last 16 of the HA Vase, finishing with the following statistics played 28, won 26, goals scored 149, goals against 49. Captain Tom Honey believes the success has come from the training structure now in place and that the success will continue in the future with pathway that is being created for the clubs junior players. The team have a good mix of youth and experience, the experience of player coach Si Fenwick, captain Tom Honey and defender Dave Langton who all have National League experience with previous club Plymouth Marjon really helped in the tighter games this season. Player coach Fenwick said "it's been a pleasure to coach the team, all the lads have been so receptive to everything that has been put in place, I am sure we will do well next season as the players continue learn with every game we play". The aim next season will obviously be for the team to keep their Conference South status but with the ambition of the squad a third promotion in a row may not be out of the question. For the development of the club the main aim will be for the second team to push for promotion following their league title this season to ensure the gap between the two teams does not get to big. Club chairman Phil Honey stated "Being shortlisted for this award in itself is an enormous achievement for the club. This past season has been another amazing step in the progressive development of the whole club. We have achieved three top table positions and a second, which is an incredible result for the season. The award nomination for our men's first team is just the icing on the cake. Having gone the whole of the league season unbeaten is a fantastic statement of the standards we are achieving".
