Plymouth University Ladies 1s 1-1 Tavistock Ladies 1s
Tavistock ladies met top of the league Plymouth uni this weekend, sitting just above them in the league table. The game started well with both teams piling on immediate pressure. The uni had a number of early short corners but some hard fought battling from the Reds backline and goalkeeper Viggers kept the uni clear. With both teams playing at a high intensity and slamming on the pressure at either end the game could have gone either way, unfortunately 2 minutes before the half time whistle it saw the uni win a short corner. With the first shot cleared away it was the rebound that saw the top corner of the Tavistock net. Following the half time team talk from coach Fenwick, the girls were ready to go again and fight for what could still be their game. Both sides were unfortunate after a number of goal scoring opportunities but it was Shillaw who shined demonstrating her determination to fight for the ball for Tavistock. After winning the ball on the half way line, the young midfielder carried the ball past a number of the university defenders to successively win Tavistocks first short corner of the game. On the first injection, the uni saw themselves a defender short for breaking the line too early. The Tavistock attack saw this as an opportunity to take advantage of the corner overload. With a perfectly placed strike from Armstrong the away side celebrated a well deserved equalising goal.
The remainder of the game fell slightly in the Reds favour however with neither team able to find the net the final score ended as a 1-1 draw.
Men's First Team: Tavistock 11-1 Torbay
Tavistock took another step towards their target of a perfect league season with this home win against Torbay, it was the Reds 21st league win from 21 games. Tavistock raced into an early lead thanks to goal machine Mark Forshaw, from that point on the result was never in danger and the only question being asked was how many goals would the home side score. Although Tavistock were not at their best they were certainly good enough to convincingly beat their match day opponents who they face again in two weeks time in the Devon Trophy Semi Final. The score at half time was 4-0, goals from by Megicks 2 and Fenwick added to Forshaws opener. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first half with the home side producing a number of attempts on goal, with less than five minutes remaining Tavistock were leading 8-1 but continued to press Torbay and managed to score another three goals. The 11 goals were scored by Megicks 3, Richards 2, Fenwick 2, Carr, Forshaw, D Stanbury and Jones. Next week Tavistock travel to Exeter to face ISCA in their last league game of the season and will be looking for the win to cap a fantastic season.
