Ladies 1st Team:

Tavistock 4-1 Okehampton

Tavistock 1-2 Exeter University Player of the Match Elz Mills-Hicks

Tavistock knew they would have to pick up where they left off against Okehampton on Thursday for the visit of Exeter University, students have had an inconsistent second half of the season but did beat the Reds convincingly earlier in the season.  The mid week game against Okehampton provided Tavistock the chance to bounce back from their surprising away defeat at Caradon last week but it was the visitors who started the quicker and scored the opening goal inside the first 10 minutes from a penalty corner.  The goal proved a crucial turning point in the game as the home side responded by scoring 3 goals in the space of 15 minutes to lead 3-1 at half time, the goals coming from Robynne Fenwick and Sarah Law (2).  The poor weather conditions did not prevent either side from playing a fast paced attacking game of hockey, with both sides looking capable of scoring it was the home side that scored the only goal of the second half when George Patterson converted from a penalty corner.  Despite the positive start from Tavistock against Exeter University it was the students that went in to the break with a 2-0 lead, a disappointing score line from the home sides perspective as they had created a number of goal scoring opportunities during the first half.  The Reds visibly increased their work rate in the second half, closing down their opponents quickly and forcing a number of turn overs but they failed to capatalise a number of half chances, Emma White, Robynne Fenwick and Katy Kelly all being denied in quick succession from some fine goal keeping.  With just three minutes remaining the Reds did score a deserved goal when Sarah Law ran on to a through ball, although she was unable to convert the initial chance midfielder Robynne Fenwick picked up the loose ball before rounding the keeper and sweeping the ball into the net with her reverse stick.

Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 0-1 West Dorset

Tavistock Men's 1st team lost their first league game at home in over two years but despite the result there were many positives to be taken from the game. The Reds had a new look team with 2nd team regulars Matt Pugsley, Phil Honey, Tom Hanson, Jonny Elliott, Josh Walker and Harry Donnelly all featuring as well as Dave Langton playing for the first time this season.  The performance shows the strength in depth the club currently has as they were able to compete against a well organised and skilfull West Dorset side.  The visitors took the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half when a well hit pass was played into the D and deflected pinto the goal at the back post.  Both teams created chances in the second half but the home side were able to keep the visitors out thanks to some excellent goal keeping from Matt Pugsley and some fantastic last ditch defending from the back line of Honey, Hanson, Marchant, Hutchings and Rory Carr looking composed in an unfamiliar centre back position.
