Women's 1st Team: Tavistock 4-0 Plym Uni - Player of the Match George Patterson.

Tavistock were looking to bounce back from their cup semi final defeat last week away at Plymouth Uni and knew a win would move them level on points at the top of the league with their match day opponents.  The game started in a similar way to last week with the students controlling the tempo and having the majority of the early possession, the home side had shuffled the midfield and front line and they soon took control of the game and looked the more likely to score.  Janice Scott looked strong playing a centre half and was linking well with Laura Armstrong and Robynne Fenwick, Meg Benton looked dangerous in the front line carrying the ball well as she looked to set up a number of attacks, as normal Tavistock looked most threatening on the counter attack.  The opening goal came just before the mid point of the first half when captain Armstrong struck from a penalty corner, Robynne Fenwick doubled the home sides lead shortly after when she hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.  The Uni attempted to maintain their attacking philosophy but when one atack was broken down by some good defending from Pollock, Kelly and player of the match Patterson the ball fell to Armstrong who Carried the ball at pace into the attacking half, forwards Benton and Lamb both made impressive supporting runs and it was Lamb who was given the ball one on one with the keeper only to be brought down as she was about to score into the open goal. Fenwick stepped up and flicked the ball low past the diving keeper to give Tavistock a 3-0 lead going into the half time break.  The Uni came out more determined in the second half and similar to last week it was the two defences who were having the better of their attacking counterparts.  As the game progressed the home side slowed the tempo as they attempted to maintain possession of the ball, on the few occasions the students broke through the Reds defence they were unable to beat Zoe Viggers in the Tavistock goal, Viggers looked in confident form when she was called upon.  With the clock running down and the victory assured forward Sarah Law had the opportunity to hold up the ball but instead used her pace to eliminate her marker on the half way line before firing a pin point pass to Lamb who's first touch moved the ball into a great position to have a shot on goal but instead she showed great awareness to slip the ball to Armstrong who slapped the ball into the goal for her second goal of the game.  A great performance from the squad means that Tavistock sit at the top of the league on goal difference ahead of Plymouth University and Kingsbridge & Salcombe with a game in hand over their promotion chasing rivals.

Men's 2nd Team: Dart A 3 Tavistock A 5

Tavistock finally got the result they have deserved over the last few weeks.  Playing a side with youth and experience, Tavistock pitched their own blend into the game.  Tavistock started attacking from the start, which has been their trademark approach of late.  Playing a solid line up with captian Anning slotting in at the back and club coach Si Fenwick up front, Tavistock were in control of the early skirmishes.  Some early opportunities went begging but the visitors did not get frustrated. Dart started to work themselves back into the game and were awarded a short corner which was converted.  Tavistock were playing good linking hockey and following one of the moves via, Tosdevin, Hanson and Honey, Fenwick brought the game back all square.  Again, Tavistock were the masters of their own destiny and a stray pass from the usual unflappable Gott was struck past the despairing Pugsley.  Tavistock came out confidently in the second half and the skills of Donnelly were showing on the left and worked well with the maturing Hutchins, who was commanding in midfield. BDart did strike early with a fantastic strike which hammered into the net and the challenge was looking daunting again for Tavistock.  Tavistock did stick to the game plan and with nothing to lose attacked relentlessly. Walker and Elliott worked tirelessly and with the skills of Fenwick on show, Tavi were soon back in the game.  Pressure kept on mounting on the home side who struggled to get out of their D, but when they did the back line managed the forays with confidence and distributed the ball back into play.  A quick period of Tavistock scoring, took the wind out of the Dart sails and the battling Walker scored his first hatrick of the season to give Tavistock a much deserved win.  A great team performance and Tavistock face another hard game next Saturday against Bude.
