Tavistock L1s 4 - 1 Bodmin Ladies
Tavistock travelled away to Bodmin to open the second half Of their 2016/17 season and were hoping to start on a high and regain some points that they missed out on prior To the Xmas break. A slightly slower start to this fixture than the girls were used to but they certainly showed composure on the ball and controlled the game. Within 4 minutes the reds took the lead following Fenwick pouncing on the ball in the D and a tidy slip passed the Bodmin keeper. In a matter of minutes Tavistock's Fenwick managed to make it 2-0 following some great skills from Lamb senior along the base line who slipped it back to Fenwick who flicked it Passed the keepers right glove. With Tavistock on a high they kept piling the pressure on the Bodmin defence. After winning a short corner Nevin stepped up at top of the D with a strong strike, following a great save from the keeper Fenwick smashed home to take it into half time with a 3-0 lead for Tavistock. Tavistock opened the 2nd half with a higher tempo and had some great opportunities at goal following some threatening attacking play by Law, Lamb and Nevin. Bodmin kept working and opened up several opportunities, which a strong Tavistock defence calmly kept clear. Despite some brilliant saves made by Viggers Bodmin took a goal back following an unfortunate deflection off Captain Scott from Strong short corner strike. Tavistock finished the game with a beautiful team goal starting from defence, through to midfield and a clever ball through to Lamb senior who out skilled the Bodmin defence and slipped it to Law to strike home for the reds to complete a 4-1 win.
Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 7-0 PMHC 2B's
Having not played since their defeat to North Somerset on the 12th December Tavistock were keen to get 2017 off to a winning start and maintain top spot in Conference South a position they shared with Exeter Uni, Yeovil and North Somerset at the start of the day. The home looked in command from the outset and rarely looked under pressure, keeper Hayden Bond going for long periods of the game with no involvement. Tavistock went into the half time break with a 3-0 lead, goals coming from Si Fenwick and 2 from Mark Forshaw. Half backs Andy Berry and Dave Langton both looked to join the attack at every available opportunity, a tactic that the Reds have used effectively this season. The second half saw a similar pattern to the first but with the home side even more clinical in front of goal, Si Fenwick scored 2 to compete his hat trick as well as goals for Dom Stanbury and Ollie Richards. The home side created a number of other chances and on another day they may have resulted in more goals, the fact they created the chances they did and played with such control in the first game back after Christmas is surely a sign of things to come in this half of the season as the side look to stay in the promotion race and gain their third successive promotion. There is a long way to go but the side look in good shape and are showing the desire to maintain their own high standards and next weeks away trip to Yeovil will be another test for their promotion credentials.
Marjon Plymouth C 2. Tavistock A 1
This top of the table clash was always going to be a tense and competitive game. The A's fielding yet another defensive line up were slow to start and struggled to hold a structure and cover some of the Marjon attackers.
Within the first 5 minutes, Marjon were in the lead via a close tap in from an unmarked player.
Tavistock shuffled the defence and the structure became a lot more composed and started to change the direction of the game.
Tavistock were starting to apply the pressure and the opportunities were being created, but the ball was missing the final touch and just not going into the net.
With the balance of play pretty even chances were swinging either way, but Tavi' were creating the greater.
The second half started as the first ended, with attacks and defence cancelling each other out, but Tavistock still were having the clearer opportunities when they arose.
Tavistock went further behind when a through ball bounced over the defenders stick and was picked up by the home attack and slotted over the the impressive Grahame.
This did not dishearten Tav', who still pressed for the points and with 5 minutes to go scored a deserved goal through Daniels.
Pressure was one way at this stage and Tavistock had further chances to take some points but to no avail.
This was a game of missed chances, but a heartening performance in effort and structure. Tavistock are still top, but need to gain some points over the next few weeks, to maintain the push for promotion.
