Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 6-3 Bridgewater

Tavistock bounced back from last weeks defeat with a comfortable home win against Bridgewater with the away keeper making a number of fime saves to keep the score at six.  The home side made a lighting quick start when speedster Bob Carr got in behind the away defence to open the scoring inside the first five minutes, Carr then turned provider as he set up Stanbury to double the lead early on. Tavistock converted from a penalty corner to make it 3-0, with the away side determined to charge down Forshaw at the top of the D he cleverly slipped the ball to Hancox who slapped the ball past the keeper to keep up his fine form in front of goal, the next corner saw Forshaw execute a trademark drag flick into the roof of the net to score the fourth goal for Tavistock. With the half time score 4-1 it looked like it was going to be comfortable second half for the home side and had the Bridgewater keeper not been in such fine form there could have been a lot more goals scored.  The two goals for the home side in the second half came from skipper Tom Honey and a second of the game for Stanbury and were scored either side of two counter attack goals from Bridgewater.  The win sees Tavistock maintain third place in the league just a point of the top with 3 games remaining.

ladies 1st: Exeter 1 - 0 Tavistock

Tavistock ladies travelled to Exeter Uni this week minus several of their usual starting 11. Mills Hicks stepped further back through defence this week staring as goal keeper: Kelly and Patterson found themselves in the defensive line once more.
With only 11 pairs of legs this week, the girls knew it was going to be a hard game, fitness would be key. Ex uni were well drilled throughout the game transferring the ball effortlessly around the field however the Tavistock team were ready to pounce and capitalise on any mistakes made.
In the first half the uni were awarded 3 penalty corners, none of which were converted. Pollocks quick step and Pattersons composure saw the back line fight off any attempt at goal. The ball soon found itself in the attacking circle where Lamb Sr hit the baseline passing the ball towards the penalty spot but a shot just wide of the post did not allow the team to convert a goal.
Half time saw the score line as 0-0.
In the second half of the game Nevin, Fenwick and Headon found themselves covering masses of space, the play was very end to end. Nevin, as usual, displayed fine speed down the right midfield but a cross through the circle fell short of a Tavistock foot.
Play switched ends once more with the Uni side breaking through the away sides press, and a strong cross from the left midfield found a player right in front of Mills Hicks who was gifted a goal.
This did not deter Tavistock. Some nice transfers through the defence and midfield soon followed, Lamb Jr then protecting the ball on the outside of the oppositions circle to win a free hit. A quick pass from the young player and a strong hit in from Scott landed last weeks goal scorer Fenwick with the ball on her reverse, but hitting the left post, a goal was not meant to be.
As time ran out, the 11 pairs of legs kept running but unfortunately the final whistle got the better of them, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Bodmin A 2. Tavistock A 5

Tavistock travelled to Bodmin to look at securing another three points in their quest for promotion.

The game started with Tavistock well in control. Moving the ball across the backs of Stead, Davies Honey and Donnelly, and then creating opportunities up the side channels.

The midfield of Elliott, Staig and centre mid Bott, in his new role were controlling the pitch and releasing Walker, Orman and Daniels up front.

The training ground routines had moved to the matchday pitch and Tavistock were looking confident.

The scoring opened with a fantastic run up the pitch from Stead, who slotted the ball from a tight angle.

Further goals from Orman via his trademark reverse stick and another from Stead from a penalty corner gave Tavistock a comfortable 4 nil lead at the break.

This is where it all started to unravel!

Whether Tavistock were too complacent or Bodmin upped their game, the Tavi side, were not performing as they had and the game swung in Bodmins direction with two breakaway goals.

Tavistock managed to calm themselves and be more composed and started to move the ball with more control and purpose as the half progressed and Walker slotted the fifth, following some good attacking play.

Tavistock A 1. OPM A 1

This was the rearranged match that made this weekend a double header.

OPM's turned up with a strong squad and straight away applied pressure onto Tavistock.

The game was flowing from end to end, with opportunities from both sides being created.

The inspired Grahame kept a few early shots at bay, but could not stop the close range shot that gave OPM's the lead.

Tavistock kept on plugging away, but the frantic pace of the game did not allow Tavistock to settle into their trademark control and movement.

With a large squad available, Tavistock kept the tempo going and the frontline of Orman, Walker and Daniels were creating opportunities and with Dee adding great direction, the home side looked likely to score.

The second half carried on in the same manner and with a subtle change in the midfield, Tavistock started to control the game more.

Honey showing some great skill managed to find Hancox who powered in a strike from the top of the D.

The game was swinging both ways and a draw seemed to be a fair result.

This result leaves Tavistock A 7 points clear with three games to play. The A's play Duchy this Saturday, who are sitting in second spot and can still mathematically take the title.
