Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 2-3 Exeter University

Tavistock relinquished top spot in Conference South after this home defeat to the student side and have dropped to third place in the league.  The University side were the quicker to settle into their rhythmm in this game and with the Reds initially struggling to defend against the structured attack the visitors raced into a 3-0 lead.  As Tavistock began to work out how to defend effectively against the Uni they themselves started to look more of an a attacking threat and moments before half time grabbed a goal back thanks to Bob Carr who cleverly deflected in at a penalty corner.  This game certainly fits the cliche of a game of two halves, the second half saw the home dominate in terms of possession and territory resulting in Exeter being limited to the odd counter attack.  When Si Fenwick pulled a second goal back following clever play on the left from Forshaw the comeback looked on but unfortunately for Tavistock they couldn't find a third goal to claim a share of the points.  It was not the ideal to end to the week which had began so well when the Tavistock side were named Team of the Year for 2016 at the Plymouth Sports Personality of the Year awards on Monday evening.  The team were presented the award by former Olympic Swimmer Sharon Davies MBE at the Ceremony held at Plymouth Pavillions, its a great honour for the team to win the award as it encompasses all sports and not just Hockey - they were given the award ahead of Plymouth Primary Schools Football Team, Staddon Heights Veterans Golf and Plymouth Argaum Rugby Team.

Tavistock Ladies 1s 6-2 Okehampton

It was a soggy local derby for Tavistock ladies (home) and Oke ladies on Saturday, however the rain didn't seem to put the home side off their positive run! The game started well with Tavistock immediately pressurising the Okehampton defence, with some quick passing through the midfield and forward line gave Fenwick the opportunity in the D to open the lead up at 1-0. Momentum was high and Tavistock soon followed up their lead, a great ball came through from centre half Headon to allow Law to open her scoring tally and take the lead to 2-0. Okehampton fought hard and created a couple of quick breaks through to their forward line, however Tavistock defence of Colwill, Evans, Pollock and Scott were proving a tricky bunch to get through. The second half saw Okehampton step up a gear and cause more of a threat in the home sides half. However it was still Tavistock who added to the score sheet, following some nifty work from Nevin and Lamb junior which allowed Law to strike home. Okehampton reacted well and caught Tavistock snoozing, when the spectators witnessed a solo effort of another level from Oke's Moppet who then cleanly slotted past The Tavistocks keeper. With the score at 3-1, the home side reacted to the pressure and hit straight back on the Oke defence when Fenwick and Law once again added to the score line and took it to 5-1. Moments later Okehampton once again broke through at speed and took a well worked goal past Tavistock. Although drenched the Tavistock ladies kept working hard and finished with a beautiful team goal, a ball through to Lamb senior enabled her to show her trademark skills and slip the ball to Fenwick who completed her Hatrick and take the final score to 6-2.

Teign A 1.  Tavistock A. 3

The Tavistock A's headed off the Dawlish to maintain their table topping position. They knew the match would be a tough game, but it certainly had its physical elements also, which were quite worrying!

Teign stretched Tavistock from the start and had some early chances, but the commanding Grahame kept the score sheet even.

Tavistock started to settle into the game and build more confidently, with the back line of Hanson, Honey, Donnelly and the ever calm Staig creating opportunities for the midfield to move forward at pace.

The tempo of Tavistocks game was starting to create problems for Teign and eventually Orman capitalised on a good move and hammered the ball via a reverse stick strike into the net.

Fielding a new player, Dee in the midfield was starting to create chances for the front line and with the mature Bott showing his class with his first appearance for the A's, were major assets.

The battling Daniels and Elliott were always applying pressure and more chances were coming. Some sublime skill from Reynolds gave Tavi' their second after a great team move and accurate pass from Dee.

Tavistock were running riot now, but Teign still had their own chances and following a loose pass from the back a powerful strike gave the home side some hope.

Tavistock were not to be denied and following a great determined run via Walker, Reynolds slotted the third to take the match and move Tavistock six points clear at the top of the table.

Next week Tavistock are at home to OPM A at 1pm.
