Mens 1st Team: North Devon 2-2 Tavistock

Tavistock made the trip to North Devon missing 6 first team regulars, with Chevin, Willetts, Blonden, Carr, Langton and skipper Honey all unavailable it meant first team debuts for Josh Reynolds and Jacob Staig.  The Mount Kelly student (Staig) had started the season in the third team and after a number of impressive performances he was given the chance to step up to the second team and then this weekend he gained a deserved opportunity in the first team.  The league leaders looked the more likely to open the scoring in this game creating a number of potential chances in front of goal, the home sides defensive set up of players behind the ball allowed Tavistock to play with just three and at times two in defence allowing Staig and Berry to try and have an impact on the game higher up the pitch.  Despite the possession and territorial advantage it was the home side who took the lead when a shot crept past Bond at his near post following  a rare visit for the hosts into the Tavistock D.  The sides went into the half time break level a 1-1 thanks to a clever reverse stick finish from Tavi's Mark Forshaw.  Tavistock took a 2-1 lead mid way through the second half when Fenwick and Richards linked well at a penalty corner with the latter setting up the player coach for a simple finish, Tavistock had a number of opportunities to claim their third goal but were finding the North Devon keeper tough to beat and with just 9 minutes remaining the home side were awarded a penalty stroke following the ball hitting a Tavistock foot on the line from a penalty corner strike at goal.  Unfortunately for Tavistock the stroke was converted and game finished 2-2.  The point was enough to move Tavistock clear at the top of the league after Exeter Uni's defeat agaisnt Plymouth Marjons, next week sees the last round of games before Christmas with Tavistock hosting 4th placed North Somerset and Exeter Uni playing Yeovil in a 2nd v 3rd match up.

Tavistock A  5. PGSOB B. 1

The Tavistock train keeps on going!

Tavistock knew that this game was going to be one of the hardest of the season, with PG's sitting in second place behind Tavistock.

The game started at pace, but it was all one way traffic and that direction towards the PG's goal. For the first 10 minutes, PG's were pinned into their own half and could not get hold of the ball.

Tavi' finally took the deserved lead via a strong move and clever passing via Orman and Daniels.

The game continued in the same vein, with Tav' dominating possession but PG' countering on the break. This was comfortably controlled by the back four of Hanson, Stanyer, Honey and Donnelly.

The midfield controlled the game and Honey Jnr and Chevin were dominant and threatened whenever they had the ball. Elliott worked well along with Daniels and Richards to maintain an attacking momentum.

Further goals followed via the lively Orman and a brilliant strike from Honey.

The half time talk was composed and structured, but PG's came back into it and scored a scrappy goal, which should have been cleared from the pads of Grahame, who as ever was strong in goal.

Tavistock returned to the control they needed, but struggled to find more than one more goal, which was a fine reverse stick strike from Orman.

Next week the long journey to Penzance awaits the Tavistock side, who want to maintain the unbeaten first half of the season.
