Ladies1st Team: Tavistock 4-2 PMHC Player of the Match Laura Armstrong
Tavistock finished the season on a high by taking all three points against Plymouth Marjons and took second place in the league behind champions Kingsbridge and Salcombe and ahead of Plymouth University. In the head to head matches between the top three this season Tavistock finished top taking 7 points from a possible 12 but unfortunately results against some lower placed teams meant they finished behind K&S at the end of the season. Second place this season combined with having the best goal difference in the league and a higher points total than when the team came third last season shows the progress the team is making and look forward to the challenge of being in the promotion race again next season. The game against Marjons did not go all the way of the home team and it took the visitors going into the lead to spark the home side into life. The home lifted their work rate, maintained possession for longer periods of time and started to look more dangerous in attack, coming from 1-0 down the Reds went into the half time break leading 4-1. Captain Laura Armstong scored the first two goals for the home side, the first following a trademark run from Becky Lamb down the right hand side of the pitch. The third goal was cooly converted by forward Sarch Law who took the ball into the left hand side of the D before sweeping the ball high into the net past the advancing keeper. Centre back George Patterson capped a run of fine performances with a goal surprisingly from open play, having taking a quick free hit Patterson found herself unmarked in the D and was picked out by Armstrong who this time was the provider of the final pass leaving Patterson to slap the ball past the Marjons goal keeper. The second half proved quite uneventful in comparison to the first half were both sides had looked creative in attack. With very few chances for either team it was the visitors who scored the only goal of the half, with less than five minutes remaining Marjons converted a well worked penalty corner routine.
