Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 3-2 PGSOB's
Tavistock bounced back from last weeks disappointment at Yeovil with a solid performance and the theee points against a competitive PG's side. Ollie Richards opened the scoring with a clever backhand deflection following clever link up play from Blonden and Stanbury, mid way through the half Richards doubled his and Tavistock's goal tally with another clever deflection past the keeper. The home side were showing patience when in possession of the ball and looking to create opportunities in front of goal but with only seconds remaining of the first half the visitors pulled a goal back from a penalty corner which was sure to set up a competitive second half. The goal hungry Richards appeared to have settled the game when he completed his hat trick with his third backhand deflection of the game however PG's kept pushing and were rewarded late on when they claimed their second goal of the game. The home side maintained their discipline and attempted to slow the tempo of the game so they could hold on to the three points, the win sees them maintain top spot ahead of Exeter University who they host next Saturday in what promises to be an entertaining top of the table clash. The students edged out the Reds 1-0 earlier in the season so Tavistock will look for a reverse of the outcome and move clear in the promotion race.
Ladies 1s: Caradon 0 - 3 Tavistock
After a positive couple of weeks of Wins Tavistock were on a high and looking to keep that streak running. It was a bright and early start away to Caradon and he home side certainly showed they were ready from the off when they created a Goal scoring opportunity for themselves within the first 30 seconds, thankfully Tavistocks Keeper Viggers was set and kept them clear. This woke the reds up and they reacted well, with an end to end first half it was looking like the game could go either way. it was Lamb juniors quick reactions that created Tavistock's opening goal however, just moments before the half time whistle. She took a quick self pass and played onto Lamb senior who Out skilled The Caradon defence, slipped To Law who fired at goal and finished by a nifty deflection from Headon. Tavistock knew going into the second half they had to keep the work rate and quality up if they wanted to keep hold of their score line. There was plenty of opportunities at both ends of the pitch but some strong defence and solid goal keeping from Viggers kept the reds in front. It wasn't long and Tavistock were causing even more threat in the home sides Half and following some more Lamb senior skills put Law in a great position and fired home to make it 2-0. Looking goal hungry the reds once again were attacking the Caradon goal, centre half Headon laid up Fenwick at the top of the D who turned on the reverse and slotted it passed the Caradon keepers right foot. Tavistock kept working hard and although 3-0 up still had a lot of defensive work to do against a strong opposition, the girls held on and took a well deserved 3-0 win. They now sit 3rd in the league table and next week meet Okehampton ladies at home, the reds are hoping to keep the winning form Going.
Marjon Plymouth D 2. Tavistock A 4
This was a good performance from Tavistock to maintain their table topping position and with the team in second spot loosing, it reinstated their 5 point lead.
From the start Tavistock were controlling the game and moving the ball well. With the talisman Marchant controlling possession and distribution, things were looking quite settled.
Both teams were carrying large squads and with rolling subs maintaining the pace of the game, the play rolled from end to end, but did get a bit disjointed.
Tavistock always looked the more likely to score, but the home side defence stood firm and broke down the attacks on a few occasions.
Eventually, the stalemate was broken when Orman collected a loose ball and soundly fired it into the net.
This score motivated Tavistock and they increased the pressure and two more swift goals from Hancock and Orman gave the visitors a commanding lead and reflected the dominance at this stage.
The second half continued in the same vein, with attacks from both sides. Marjon were always dangerous on the break and a handful of fine saves from Tavi's Oxenham, especially at the short corners, kept them the lead.
The defence was sound and the midfield and forwards were working hard to control the game. Using the width was a real bonus, with the pace of Daniels and Walker creating havoc.
Marjons managed to find a moment of hesitation from Tavi and scored a goal to raise their hopes. Their optimism was firmly quashed when Tavistock grabbed hold of the game again and Hancock hammered the bouncing ball into the net for the goal of the match.
Marjon did score again with minutes to go, when one of their skilful youngsters picked up a fine cross to beat the keeper.
Next game is away at Teign, which will be another tough battle.
