Mens 1st Team: Exeter Uni C 1-0 Tavistock

Tavistocks impressive league run which had seen them win their last 25 consecutive games came to an end on Saturday when the students scored from a penalty corner with less than two minutes remaining.  Both teams went into the game as the only teams in Conference South with 3 wins from their first three games and the quality of hockey did not disappoint.  It looked like both teams would take a share of the points but with the clock running down a hopeful ball into the D found the foot of one of the Tavistock defenders, a cleverly worked routine allowed the students to deflect the ball in to the goal and steal all three points, from the restart Tavistock threw all they could at the the students and won themselves a penalty corner however the Reds were not able to convert and despite another impressive performance left Exeter with no points.  Tavistock were not as clinical in front of goal as many have come to expect and against a quality Exter University side the chances were few and far between, next week Tavistock will look to bounce back when they host Teign at the Mount Kelly Astroturf.

Ladies 1st Team: Tavistock 2-1 Plymouth Marjon

After another good win for Tavistock last weekend in their local derby match against Okehampton, the girls were on a high and looking forward to what they knew would be a tough match against a strong Plymouth Marjon side. The home side started well with a new look formation and aplied the pressure immediately. Although many great opportunities in the first half the ladies couldn't quite get themselves ahead, with some solid defensive work by Mills-Hicks, Colwill and Mount Kelly student Francis the Plymouth side were kept clear and saw the scoreline 0-0 at half time. Tavistock adjusted their formation going into the second half which proved to be a great decision, immediately the forward line of Law, Gaspar and Lamb were creating some brilliant chances in the Plymouth sides half but were unfortunate not to convert. A great ball from midfielder Nevin enabled Lamb to outskill the Plymouth defence, pull it back to Fenwick who calmly flicked it passed the keeper on her reverse to take Tavistock into the lead. Plymouth came back with strength and it didn't take them long to snatch an equaliser past Tavistocks keeper Baldwin. With just 7 minutes remaining Tavistock pounced once again, with some stunning hockey from the reds forward line saw player of the match Gaspar put away the final touch and give Tavistock the lead. The homeside kept control of the game and pushed through the final minutes with some patient hockey to take a truly deserved 2-1 win.
