Ladie's 1st Team: K&S 1-0 Tavistock Player of the Match George Patterson
Tavistock travelled to Kingsbridge for this must win game knowing that with just two games reamining the legue title was still in their hands if they could win both, at the same time defeat would give Kingsbridge the league title who went into the game 3 points clear. Tavistock enjoyed the majority of the early possession but were unable to create any clear chances in front of goal, the home side were spurred on by the big crowd and started to looked more dangerous in midfield and attack. In an even first half it was the home side that looked more likely to get the breakthrough but were denied by more good goal keeping from Zoe Viggers and player of the match George Patterson at centre back. Mid way through the second half Tavistock created the best chance of the game when folowing another penetrating run from Becky Lamb, the Reds forward found Jo Gaspar who in turn set up Sarah Law for a reverse stick effort which was saved by a Kingsbridge defender in front of the keeper. Just minutes later, Kingsbridge hit Tavistock on the break and scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game and the goal that secured the league title and back to back promotions for Kingsbridge. As the game neared the end both teams still kept pushing for a goal but both defences were equal to the attacking threat of the opposition. The defeat was the third in four matches for Tavistock who up until the poor run of results had probably been favourites to take the title. The last four games does not detract from the great season the side has had and who will surely start next season as one of the favourites for promotion. Next Saturday will see the Reds host PMHC in the final game of the season.
