Mens 1st Team: Yeovil 4-3 Tavistock

Tavistock travelled to Yeovil knowing they were in for a tough game as their hosts were unbeaten at home this season, the Reds went with a strong squad despite he unavailability of Richards, Blonden and captain Honey. With 2 goals from the prolific Mark Forshaw either side of a fine backhand goal from Dom Stanbury Tavistock went into the half time break with a 3-2 lead, the score was a fair reflection of the first 35 minutes. Both sides continued to pass the ball with intent and purpose in the second half but the respective back lines were having the edge ovwr the opposing attackers and neither team could add to their first half goal tally until mid way through the half when the home side reacted first to a loose ball in the D a finished from close range to bring the scores level. With just 7 minus left the home side once again found the back of the Tavi goal, this time from a smart strike on the turn from a Yeovil forward. The win takes Yeovil level on points with Tavistock, Noth Somerset and also Exeter Univeristy who failed to pick up any points away at PG's (the visitors to Tavistock next week).  Results also see PMHC and Teign move just one point behind the four sides at the top of the league.

Ladies 1st: Tavistock 4 - 2 Falmouth

Tavistock faced Falmouth on Saturday: a game that was as much about mental strength as physical.
Both teams set off with winning intentions showing through their play however it was Falmouth who found themselves with an early lead scoring a high deflection into the D. The away side soon fell into their rhythm and a second goal quickly followed making the score line 2-0 after 20 minutes, but the game was only getting started. Tavistock ladies upped their game and soon found their own rhythm, several scoring opportunities soon fell their way and some well worked short corners were awarded.
A composed pass from Nevin at the top of the circle landed captain Scott with a shot on goal to be saved by Falmouths keeper, however a deflected the ball into the air saw Tavistocks Law pounce and secure the ball into the goal. The ladies were not finished as a second goal by Law saw the scoreline 2-2 at half time. yeah Full of confidence, Tavistock settled into the game playing some skillful hockey.
The defence line looked composed and confident with Pollock, Evans and Colwill reading any attacking opportunities the opposition had. Quick transfers and passing through centre half Headon, in the middle of the pitch saw another short corner opportunity arise for the home team and this was an opportunity that Lamb and Fenwick were adamant to make count. A calm and collected pass from Lamb fed Fenwick the ball in front of the keeper, and an accurate shot resulted in Tavistock taking the lead for the first time in the game. Work rate and effort did not fade for either team, Falmouth finding a few gaps in Tavistock press, however it was Tavistock who were to have the last goal of the game; Fenwick found herself confronting the keeper once more but it was Nevin who had the last laugh and the last touch of the ball securing a 4-2 win for the home side.

Tavistock A 6. Plymouth University B. 2

This was a well earned and needed result for Tavistock against a strong and quick University side.

Tavistock got off to the best start when a deft touch from captain Orman put the hosts ahead within the first few minutes.

Tavistocks structure was their strength and this managed to contain the Uni side, who were quick around the pitch and very attacking in mind set.

Goals from Walker and Honey Jnr, gave the home side the lead they deserved, but the Uni were dangerous on the break and brought themselves back into it, from a poor clearance and the ball was slotted from close range.

Tavistock were fighting for every ball, and the back line of Honey Snr, Staig, Hanson and Stanyer were in control. With added direction from Grahame the home team were playing some solid hockey.

The midfield of Tavi' was dominating the game and the students were chasing shadows when trying to get the ball off Honey Jnr. Elliott was linking well and Daniels as always was a threat in the opposition half.

With rolling subs a plenty, Tavistock managed to keep the momentum and stay with the tempo of the game. Stead, Donnelly and Venton all added greater depth to the game.

More goals came with two classic strikes from Richards and Honey took his second coming from a great move and perfect pass from Walker.

The Uni kept on until the end and managed to get a second with a fine and skilful run, but these were well earned points, which keep Tavistock at the top of the division.
