Men's 1st Team: PMHC 2B 1-4 Tavistock
Tavistock's first game in Conference South saw them up against Marjons 2B's, both sides having been promoted together last season. The first half saw very few chances on goal, with just two minutes remaining before the break Tavistock did score the games opening goal thanks to midfielder Dom Stanbury. With Marjons unable to clear from a Tavistock penalty corner Stanbury pounced on the loose ball to give his side the lead at half time. The second half followed the same pattern as when the sides met two weeks ago in a friendly as Tavistock upped the intensity and forced a number of errors from the home side, a quick fire double from Summer signing Sam Blonden effectively put the game beyond the reach of Marjons, his second goal finished a fine move which was started by forward Mark Forshaw. Player coach Si Fenwick converted from a penalty corner to make the score 4-0 to Tavistock, the score line a fair reflection based on the number of chances created by the visitors. Marjons converted from a penalty corner in the final minute of the game but it was too little too late. The win extends Tavistock's winning streak to 23 consecutive league games, next week the areas face Yeovil at home 16.30 start at the Mount Kelly Astro.
Ladies 1s: Falmouth 2 - 0 Tavistock
After their first win of the new season last week the ladies were ready to hit the pitch again and fight for number two, and what a fight they gave. The ladies travelled down to Falmouth to face a strong opposition who were new to the league this year, following relegation from Premier 2 last season. It was a tough lead up to this fixture following some last minute unavailability for the reds. The game started well with Tavistock hitting the home side with great intensity and applying immediate pressure on the Falmouth defence. With the excellent work of forwards Gaspar, Lamb junior and senior it was surprising that the ladies didn't pick up the goal they needed to put themselves in front. The ladies saw Half time at 0-0 and still in a great position to get something from this game. Unfortunately it wasn't their day, Falmouth upped their game in the second half and saw 2 quick breaks and took the final score to a 2-0 defeat for Tavistock. The ladies may have come away with a loss but showed true team spirit, grit and determination and are looking forward to meeting Caradon at home next weekend.
