Mens 1st Team: Bridgewater 1-2 Tavistock

Tavistock travelled to Bridgewater this week and again did not have the luxury of selecting a full squad as they were without Sam Willetts, Bob Carr and captain Tom Honey, the performance that the side produced again shows the strength in depth that the club currently has.  The first half saw Tavistock apply pressure on the home side from the first whistle, Fenwick came closest to opening the scoring but was denied by some impressive last ditch defending from one of the Bridgewater centre backs.  The centre back pairing of Chevin and Jeffery look as formidable as normal with Berry and Marchant both looking to join the attack from half back.  With eight minutes remaining of the first half time the home side grabbed a goal against the run of play, not phased by the goal Tavistock remained composed and deliberate in attack, their reward came with just four minutes left in the half when Ben Hancox capatalised on a rare defensive mistake from Bridgewater, Hancox showed the composure to take the ball round the keeper before finding an open goal.  The Tavistock goal machine Mark Forshaw gave the visitors the lead when he converted with a powerful flick from a penalty corner. The midfield trio of Langton, Blonden and Stanbury were linking well with Forshaw and Richards in the front line and looked a constant threat and capable of scoring more goals.  The home side looked dangerous on the break but the Tavi backline were as disiplined as ever in their positioning  and Bond was rarely troubled in goal.  The win sees Tavistock maintain top spot in Conference South on goal difference over Exeter Uni, next week Tavistock host Dart at the MKC stadium.

Ladies 1s: Tavistock 1 - 3 Exe 2s

Tavistock ladies met Exe 2s under the floodlights this Saturday.
With wet and windy weather conditions, both teams knew it would be a hard fought game with every piece of play counting.
Exe started the game with a fast pace and immediately made their presence known in the Tavistock defensive circle winning several penalty corners. The defensive 5 worked extremely hard clearing the lines, keeper Baldwin making several goal saving dives, but after an unfortunate deflection off a home foot Exe took a 1-0 lead.
This did not deter the home side, who fought hard to attack the opposition winning a couple of corners for themselves however Pollock and Fenwick were unfortunate not to convert.
The high tempo of the game continued into the second half of the game, along with the rain and Exe again came strong at the Tavistock side, however finding their rhythm, Tavistock then became the side to put their visitors defence under attack. Gaspars leading runs alongside both Lamb Sr and Jrs attacking runs opened up some great attacking opportunities for the home side.
Exe responded securing another two goals to take a 3-0 lead.
Work rate and effort still high, the Tavistock forwards found themselves a foot in the circle earning a penalty corner. This was converted by Scott and Headon taking the score to 3-1 however as time soon ran out it was too little to late for the homeside to come back leaving the final score as 3-1.
The team face Torbay in next weeks league match and will be back fighting hoping to leave Torbay with 3 points.

Tavistock A 9.   Bodmin A 2

This was another emphatic win for Tavistock and maintained their top spot in the league.

Playing against the side that is sitting towards the bottom of the league, the home side always knew that this should be a win, but there are always surprises, so Tavi' were dominant from the start.

Within the first two minutes, Tavistock scored the first with a powerful strike from Orman.

This set the tone of the first half and goals came a plenty, with some great moves via Honey, Daniels and Barnes.

Tavistock were in full control and with a better set defence, we're moving the ball with confidence.

Six goals up at half time and the home side were cruising and looked to build further opportunities. As is often the case in these situations, Bodmin decided they only had one thing to do and that was attack!

Early in the second half they scored their first and Tavistock looked rattled. Bodmin scored again to put the home side under pressure, but this was probably the kick that Tav' needed.

They took control of the game again and started slotting the goals to ensure the score line reflected the game.

Powerful strikes from Tom Honey and Elliott and a further goal from Orman, gave him his fourth and concluded the score.

Next week the A's are heading to Camborne against Duchy A to maintain the push for the league title.
