Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 8-1 North Devon

Tavistock knew a win in their final home game of season would keep the chance of promotion in their own hands ahead of their final game showdown with North Somerset.  The home side took an early lead thanks to front man Ollie Richads who continued his fine run of goals, Sam Blonden scored the second following some incisive passing out of defence and into the visitors D involving Chevin, Berry, Forshaw and Stanbury however the visitors pulled a goal back from a penalty corner shortly before the half time break.  The second half was completly dominated by the home side and in the end they ran out comfortable winners, Dom Stanbury continued his impressive goal scoring form with a second half double.  Forward Bob Carr created space for himself to shoot on the backhand and with the keeper set and ready for the shot the Tavistock front man cleverly passed instead to Richards to instinctively spun to deflect the ball past the helpless keeper, further goals came from Mark Forshaw, Sam Willetts and Si Fenwick.  Next week Tavistock travel to Bristol to take on North Somerset in a promotion showdown, Tavistock must win to jump above their hosts and claim promotion, anything less than 3 points will see Tavistock finish third and North Someret and Exeter University gain promotion to the Championship.  The Reds know that a win combined with Exeter University failing to win against Yeovil will see them crowed league champions for the third season in a row.

Ladies 1s: EXE 3 - 1 Tavistock

With EXE already having promotion in the bag Tavistock knew this was going to be a tough game, with another week of missing players it was set to be even tougher! The ladies knew they had nothing to lose and to give it their all, and they certainly did that. EXE opened up the score sheet early on in the game but the reds reacted well and really kept composed throughout, with some stunning link work through midfield to forward line Tavistock were unlucky not to get anything in the attacking D. EXE were awarded a penalty flick which was kept out by a stunning save from Jackman. Tavistock came back strong in the second half, and saw an eager Law in the attacking 25 who took it round the EXE defender and cleanly past the keeper on her reverse. Tavistock stayed strong throughout the half and kept the home side clear following countless saves from player of the match Patterson and the rest of the Tavistock backline. The ladies were unfortunate to concede two late goals in the second half and despite a positive team performance, Tavistock ended up with a 3-1 loss to a strong top of the league sideline. The ladies finish their 2016/17 season next weekend with a home fixture against Torbay ladies.

PGSOB B 3. Tavistock A 1

Having been crowned league champions for the second consecutive season, Tavistock seemed to keep their worst performance the following week.

Tavistock seemed completely at odds against a highly motivated PG's, who were certainly looking for the three points.

Whether it was a foot off the proverbial gas, but Tavistock were under pressure immediately from the start. With errors mounting and the attacks from the home side relentless, Tavistock conceded a simple goal within the first 10 minutes.

This seemed to be the motivation that Tavi' required and they started to put some structured play together.

Taking the opportunity to give some third team players a run out, the Tavi' bench was turning over quickly.

James Gregory stood out as a talent to watch and n the future and looked dangerous taking the ball forward.

Towards the end of the first half, the home side managed to capitalise on some more pressure in the Tavi' D and despite the agility of stand in keeper Bond, slapped in their second.

The second half started with Tavistock playing a better attacking game. Following a reshuffle at the back, Hanson was beginning to dominate the right side and link well with Walker and Barnes.

Midway through the half, Daniels latched into a good pass into the D and slipped the ball to Dee, who hammered in his first goal for the club.

With the game beginning to open up, further chances were coming at either end, but it was the home side that concluded the game with their third.

Next week, Tavistock A play the last league game against Penzance at home, starting at 1pm.
