Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 6-1 Shepton Mallet

Tavistock knew the importance of a quick start and were keen to impress early on as they did away at Teign last week and things looked like going to plan when Sam Blonden smashed in the opeing goal after just 10 minutes.  The home side looked composed in possession of the ball as they looked to create further chances on goal, a  number of players going close but the keeper was in fine form as he was able to deny Blonden, Richards, Stanbury and Carr from adding to the Tavi goal tally, the visitors looked dangerous on the counter attack and they did draw level with 10 minutes remaining of the first half.  An example of excellent umpiring helped out the home side early in the second half when the visitors had appeared to take the lead, after a consultation between umpires Reynolds and Hodge the goal was dissallowed due to it going in off the attackers foot and this proved the catalyst for an inspired second half performance from the home side.  Fenwick gave Tavistock a 2-1 lead when he converted a penalty stroke, the lead was soon extended when Stanbury raced through on goal and beat the keeper with a clever finish on his backhand.  Fenwick and Richards combined at a penalty corner for the player coach to score his second of the game moments before Ben Hancox was rewarded for his persistence as he stole the ball of a Shepton defender and scored for the second successive game.  With just seconds left the home side won another penalty corner and again Fenwick and Richards combined, this time the latter scored with a clever deflection. The win combined with other results means Tavistock sit in second place on goal difference but level on points with both North Somerset and Exeter University.  Next week sess Tavistock make the short trip to face Plymouth Marjon but willl do so with Captain Tom Honey as well as Ollie Richards, Sam Willetts, Sam Blonden and Pete Chevin.  Sunday will see the team travel to Teign to play in the Semi Final of the Devon Cup.

Okehampton A 1. Tavistock A 5

The Tavistock A' continued their winning ways with another strong performance against Okehampton, who are sitting at the other end of the table.

The game started with both teams playing an attacking game, but Tavistock looked the more likely to score. The energetic Okehampton keeper managed to keep Tavistock at bay for the first quarter, but eventually the dominance came through and following a short corner, Barnes slotted his first.

The game continued to ebb forwards and back, but the visitors were always in control, through the midfield and backs. Tavistock were having a great deal of chances to move further ahead, but some of the misses were proving to be costly.

Eventually, captain Orman reverse sticked a powerful strike to make the score more reflective.

Okehampton scored a well worked short corner goal shortly before half time to narrow the gap.

With seconds to go to the break, Richards took a great opportunity following the usual hard graft from Daniels. This gave Tavistock some breathing space for the second half and also a boost in confidence.

Looking solid at the back with Honey, Stanyer and Thomas. The midfield was orchestrated by Marchant and he linked well with the Donnelly, who was having one of his best games. Staig and Bott, who both showed great skill and composure, were playing effortlessly.

Further goals from Barnes and Orman sealed the game and gave the Tavistock A's the score they deserved.

Okehampton never gave up the chase and with a big home crowd behind them fought to the end, but could not really get any clear chances to score.
