Ladies 1st Team: Okehampton 0-3 Tavistock
Following Okehamptons promotion last season back into the South League, game day four of the season was the eagerly anticpated West Devon Derby. Okehampton started brightly as they looked to attack straight from the first pass however it was the visitors who enjoyed greater possession and looked the more likely to score in the early stages. Tavistocks Robynne Fenwick opened the scoring with a well placed shot from the top of the D following a clever build up and interchange between Alice Lamb and Erin Shillaw. Tavistock continued to look for a second goal, Lamb snr, Gaspar and Law all looking like they could get on the score sheet for the Reds. With Tavistock leading 1-0 at half time both sides knew the next goal of the game could be significant and although both sides attacked with promise the home side looked the less likely to be able to score with their most likely goal threat coming from one or two individuals. Tavistock kept appliying the pressure and were able to win the ball back off Okehampton and keep them penned in ther own half, after a number of short corner chances centre half Amy Headon pounced on the ball at the back post to put the away side 2-0 up. Player of the Match Hannah Nevin was putting in another trademark performance as the teams midfield engine and it was she who linked well again with captain Janice Scott to then set Lamb free on the right who was in turn able to set up Gaspar to complete the scoring for Tavistock. Tavistock were denied a fourth goal after Jenny Pollocks strike from a penalty corner was judged to have risen above the backboard before crossing the line. The win sees Tavistock move to third in the league, they sit level on points with PMHC however goal difference separates the two teams who face each other next week at the Mount Kelly astro pitch.
Mens 1st Team: PGSOB's 0-2 Tavistock
Tavistock faced PG's and were able to claim all 3 points despite missing Langton, Blonden, Richards, Forshaw and Willetts, the result and performance shows the strength in depth the club currently has. The home side were looking to get some points on the board following defeats in their opening two games of the season however it was the Reds who took the lead when Fenwick flicked low from a penalty corner beating the keeper and the post man at the left post. Both sides were were playing a controlled game and looked confident in possession without creatig any clear cut chances, the home side did go close from a penalty corner but fortunately for Tavistock the ball just missed by the left post. With just less than 10 minutes remaning before half time Josh Walker doubled the Tavistock lead with a clever fnish at the back post, the ball just creeping over the line despite the efforts of the PG's defenders to prevent the goal. The poor weather conditions didn't help either side and contributed to a goalless second half, the home side looked to build from Haes and Uden and the back linking with Hussey in midfeld but were unable to find the goal, their closest effort came from a Haes penalty corner strike that hit the post with less than two minutes remaining. The Tavistock backline looked solid and with the influence of skipper Honey in midfield the Reds never looked like gaining anything less than the 3 points. The win sees Tavistock sit at the top of Conference South ahead of Exeter University on goal difference, both teams have won 3 from 3 and face each other next week.
