Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 3-1 PMHC A

Tavistock recieved a last minute boost in preparation for this game when Dave Langton and Si Fenwick both passed late fitness tests to play as well as Mark Forshaw becoming available in the morning of the game and it was the 3 late editions who each scored to help Tavistock on their way to this important 3 points. The home side got off to the perfect start when Forshaw flicked a peanlty corner passed the Marjons keeper in the first five minutes of the game although visitors converted a well worked opportunity to level things up with the hosts leading for less than 10 minutes.  The home side looked dangerous on the attack with Blonden in possesion through the midfield and the exceptional link up play between Carr and Forshaw in the front line.  With the score tied at 1-1 at half time the next goal was likely to prove crucial in this game between two very equally matched teams, fortunately for the Reds they got the third goal of the game when Dave Langton finished calmly from the edge of the D folling a clever crossfield aerial from Forshaw eventually found its way to Langton.  With time running out the visitotrs increased the pressure of the Tavistock backline but centre back pairing of Chevin and Jeffery rarely looked troubled and were able to link well to transfer the ball out of defence with the help of Willetts, Marchant and Berry.  With just six minutes remaining Fenwick was given the ball on the left hand side of the D and his shot found the far corner of the goal to give Tavistock a goal goal advantage, depsite the fact Tavistock had twice been reduced to 10 men they were able to maintain disciplone in their defensive structure to prevent Marjons from creating any opportunities on goal.  The win see Tavistock move to the top of the league ahead of Exeter University on goal difference.  The win against Marjons is a clear statement of Tavistocks intentions this season and also reinforces the impressive journey the club is currently on.  Next week sees the M1's travel to Bridgewater but the Reds will again be hit by unavailability as they will travel without skipper Tom Honey as well as Carr and Willetts however they wil welcome back midfielders Ollie Richards and Dom Stanbury.

Ladies 1st team: White Eagles 3 - 3 Tavistock

After a disappointing loss to Exeter University last week the Tavistock ladies were to looking to get back to winning ways. The reds met White Eagles away in Tiverton who currently sit mid table in the South Division. The ladies started well and applied immediate pressure in the home sides half. Winning consecutive short corners Tavistocks Pollock and Fenwick combo were unlucky not to score, however following a White Eagle body on the line saw the reds awarded a penalty flick. Fenwick successfully flicked the ball home to take the ladies into the lead.    Eagles came back strong and applied the pressure onto the Tavistock defence, with some impressive defensive work by the back line of Scott, Pollock, Mills-Hicks and return of Evans kept the home side clear of goal. It was just before half time when the ladies were unlucky and White Eagles took the score line to 1-1. Tavistock went back into the second half with positive minds and a slight adjustment to formation, and it didn't take them long to step up and take the lead, following some brilliant work from forwards Lamb junior, Gaspar and cleanly finished by Law. With the reds in high spirits they soon showed what they can do with some impressive link work from Lamb junior and Law, who once again fired home for Tavistock to take a 3-1 lead. Despite a two goal lead White Eagles didn't give up and fought back hard, it didn't take long for the home side to force mistakes out of Tavistock and get themselves back in the game at 2-3. With an injury to Tavistocks centre back Pollock in the last 5 minutes of the game, the homeside once again found gaps within the reds and brought the game back to 3-3. Although some final breaks in the game from Tavistock the ladies were unable to take the lead back and ended on a disappointing draw. They look forward to a tough game next week against Exe ladies at home.

Truro B. 2. Tavistock A. 4

Tavistock took the first of their longer journeys into Cornwall for this away game.

Truro were playing a large and experienced squad and the hockey they played belied their league position.

Tavistock were again fielding a new line up in defence and took some time to settle the obvious nerves.

Tavistock dominated the opening stages of the game and it looked likely that a goal was to come. It took 15 minutes before Tavistock found the net via Orman and Truro had not really ventured out of their half.

This goal seemed to be the wake up call that Truro needed and they came right back into it via a strong shot that eluded the impressive Grahame.

Truro had their tails up and found the net again after they capitalised on the defensive inexperience and scored a simple tap in.

The visitors were not to be outdone, and carried on relentlessly attacking and the reward came via Orman again.

The second half saw a bit more composure and Tavi' managed to start building from the back. New boy and man of the match Jacob Staig, was a stalwart in defence and was linking well with Hansen and Honey who were feeding the midfield.

Tavistock continued to dominate the attack and further goals via Walker and Barnes reflected the domination and any further chances that Truro had were thwarted at the early stages.

This result puts Tavistock top, with a home game next week against Bodmin.
