Mens 1st Time: Dart 1-7 Tavistock

With Dart rock bottom of Conference South and Tavistock pushing for the league title this looked to be a formality even though Tavistock were without regular goalscorer Mark Forshaw, the reds were dealt two late blows when both Dave Langton and skipper Tom Honey both failed late fitness tests and were unable to make the match day squad leaving just 11 players to make the short trip to Exeter.  Tavistock went into the half time break with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Ollie Richars and Dom Stanbury, the reds were in control of the game which had produced very few clear cut chances in front of goal.  The home side made the dream start to the second half when they scored but it only served to motivate Tavistock further, with Ben Hancox playing his last game for the club pulling the strings in midfield and the movement in front of him from Blonden, Richards, Carr and Stanbury it was only a matter of time before the goals started coming.  Richards doubled his goal tally and Stanbury scored a second half hat trick to take his match tally to four.  Si Fenwick converetd from a penalty corner late on to complete the scroing. The win keps Tavistock just one point behind Exeter University and North Somerset with just two games left to play, it looks like Tavistocks trip to North Somerset on the last day of the season could have a big impact in the title race.  Tavistock play their last home game of the season next Saturday when they host North Devon.

Ladies 1st: Tavistock 3 - 4 White Eagles

With Tavistock sitting just above White Eagles in the league table the ladies were hoping to get something out of this weeks fixture, however another week of key players missing it was always going to be a tougher game for the home side. Tavistock started slowly and took a while to find their game, and immediate pressure was applied on the defensive line. Tavistock began to find their feet and played some stunning linking play through midfield and forward line, the ladies created countless opportunities but struggled to get anything past the determined White Eagles goal keeper. Soon after Tavistock were awarded a penalty flick, Fenwick stepped up and along with a slight 'pitch fault' managed to just about put the flick away and open the score board. It didn't take long and the away side soon came back and batted a loose ball in the air passed Viggers to take the score line to 1-1. It didn't take Long for more goals to follow soon into the 2nd half, and it was the away side who took the lead. Tavistock were again awarded another penalty stroke, thankfully at the other end of the pitch and Fenwick cleanly flicked passed the keeper to take it back to a draw. Proving an end to end game it didn't stop there and the away side caught the Tavistock defence out on two occasions and opened the score Line to 2-4. Tavistock kept working hard and saw a late goal from Fenwick to complete her hatrick, but despite the teams efforts it was too little too late and the reds took another defeat at 3-4. Next week Tavistock travel away to EXE 2s who have already guaranteed themselves promotion from the South Division

Tavistock A 2.  Duchy A

Job done.

Having had successive promotions for Tavistock first team, the target for the club was to achieve another promotion for the second team.

The promotion was achieved two weeks ago, but the league title was gained via a great game of hockey last weekend.

Duchy A who were sitting second in the league, travelled aiming for some points to try and nail down their own promotion.

The game started with Tavistock gaining the momentum and applying pressure onto the visitors. Missing captain Orman, Tavistock were getting the shots on goal, but were not getting the ball passed the keeper.

With Tavistock running the midfield via the commanding Bott and Staig and the energetic Dee, a goal looked only a matter of time.

The back line was in control and all looked comfortable, until a break from Duchy, capitalised on some loose defending and the powered a goal passed the diving Grahame.

The half time talk was to keep the same play going. All was going well, but Tavistock just needed to find the net.

The game kept swinging from one end to the other and the Tavistock forwards of Barnes, Elliott, Daniels and Walker hammered at the Duchy door, but the visiting defence stood firm.

The pressure was building for Tavistock and they only needed a draw to secure the title, and they camped in the Duchy half.

After a series of short corners, Steed hurled a trademark flick into the net to give Tavistock the point the were chasing.

It was at this time that Duchy really started to open their play, as they knew they needed a win.

This created further opportunities for Tavistock and a determined run by Walker concluded in him slotting the ball through a narrow gap for the crowning glory.

This was a great season culminating in another title win for Tavistock.

Next week they are away to PGSOB's who are also chasing the second promotion spot.
