Ladies 1st team: Plymouth University 2-2 Tavistock Player of the Match: Elz Mills-Hicks
Tavistock made the short journey to Plymouth for this top of the table clash with the newly promoted students. Going into the game, Tavistock were tied on 9 points with 3 other sides including their match day opponents. The students made the brighter start forcing a number of early short corners, despite the pressure the Reds defence held strong with keeper Zoe Viggers looking hard to beat in goal. Due to the unavailability of Jo Gaspar, Becky Lamb, Robynne Fenwick, Susannah Boulle and Meg Benton there was a new look to the Reds line up. The most notable change was usual centre back Elz Mills-Hicks moving into midfield where put in a solid performance and was voted player of the match. Tavistock took the lead mid way through the first half thanks to forward Sarah Law's reverse stick effort. The goal gave Tavistock the confidence boost they needed and they soon started to create a number of further chances. A fast counter attack early in the second half saw Patterson and Mills-Hicks link well in midfield before putting Law through on goal, a great first touch eliminated the final defender before a clinical finish from Law gave the Reds a deserved 2-0 lead. Tavistock found themselves under increased pressure, the situation was not helped when the Reds lost centre back Jenny Pollock to an ankle injury. With just 10 minutes remaining the students were awarded a penalty corner which they converted to set a nervous finish to the game then with just 4 minutes left they found themselves with time and space in midfield and were able to pick out a forward in the D who was able to fire the ball past Viggers in goal and earn a share of the points.
Mens 1st team: USHC 0-6 Tavistock MoM Sam Stanbury
Tavistock expected a tough game away to USHC and things were made tougher by the fact they started the game with just 10 players, despite the man advantage the hosts were unable to break through the Reds defence. Tavistock created the better of the chances and received a boost when club chairman Phil Honey arrived to make his first appearance for the first team this season. Honey slotted in a right back which allowed man of the match Sam Stambury to move to his more accustomed centre half position. Barnaby Sargent-Megicks looked dangerous up front forcing the USHC keeper to make a number of fine saves. Tavistock did take the lead when Fenwick converted from a penalty corner, the visitors soon doubled the lead after more good work from Sargent-Megicks set up captain T Honey to score from close range. Tavistock created a number of chances in the second half but were not their usual clinical selves in front of goal, the score remained at 2-0 thanks to the fine form of keeper Matt Graham and his defensive line up of P Honey, Wood, Harding and Carr. A quick double, including a reverse stick shot from Sargent-Megicks increased Tavistock's lead to 4-0 before futher goals from Fenwick and Berry made the final score 6-0.
Mens 2nd team: Tavistock 0-7 PMHC D
Missing a handful of players, Tavistock took a step backwards this match and due to structure, shed a lot of second half goals. Competing well in the first half and only a couple of goals down, Tavistock were in the game, but the formation went awol and no amount of effort could keep them in the game. The young players of Marjon’s, passed the ball with ease and the tiring legs of the home side finally capitulated.
