Ladies 1st Team: Tavistock 3-2 K&S HC Player of Match Becky Lamb

Tavistock maintained 3rd place in the league with this home victory over a well organised Kingsbridge and Salcombe side. In what could be described as a game of two halves it was the visitors who made the brighter start to this 3rd v 4th encounter with the K&S frontline looking dangerous in attack. The visitors took advantage of a slightly nervous start from the Reds to score the opening goal of the game and then continued to dominate possession of the ball, the home side did draw level when Mount Kelly College student Meg Benton swept the ball in having been left unmarked at the back post.  Having got back into the game it was important for the Reds to go in at half time level but K&S again hit them on the break with a fast flowing move and again took the lead. Tavistock came out in the second half determined to play their usual composed, quick attacking hockey and drew level within five minutes of the restart when in form striker Sarah Law converted from close range following more good work from player of the match Becky Lamb down the right hand side.  The goal gave Tavistock the confidence they had been lacking and the home side began to maintain possession of the ball and started to create a number of chances to take the lead. The game was stopped following an injury to one of the K&S defenders, although both sides did well to pick up where they left off it was the home side who maintened the greater level of intensity in attack, the winning goal was scored by Reds captain Laura Armstrong who swept the ball high into the net to claim her 6th goal of the season.  With 15 minutes remaining both teams had chances to score, Robynne Fenwick was denied by the crossbar  after a shot from the top of the D and then in the final two minutes K&S were denied a penalty corner goal thanks to a goal line clearance from Hannah Colston.  With one league game remaining before Christmas, Tavistock wil be looking for another 3 points away at PMHC next Saturday and go into the winter break in the top 3.

Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 5-0 Bude MoM Tom Honey

Tavistock maintained their impressive start to the season with another 3 points following this home victory against a Bude side who started the day in 4th place, they started with their usual fast paced, hard pressing attacking hockey. The home side went in at half time 4-0 up but it could have been a lot more if it had not been for some good save from the away keeper, some last ditch tackles and forward Simon Fenwick being denied by the post on two occasions. Tavistock took the lead after determined play by Mount Kelly College student Barny Megicks, he won possession of the ball before setting up D Stanbury who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. The home side soon doubled their advantage when Fenwick converted from close range, Megicks was rewarded for his hard work when he flicked the ball past the keeper following a penalty corner to score his 8th goal of the season and give Tavistock a 3-0 lead. Shortly before half time Fenwick scored his 20th goal of the season from a penalty corner flicked high and right past the Bude keeper, he could have claimed his hatrick before half time but was denied by the post having flicked high and left from yet another penalty corner. The second half continued much in the same way as the first with the home side dominating possession and attempts on goal however were only able to convert one chance which was cooly taken by Ollie Richards who showed the composure to take the ball around the advancing keeper and slot the ball into an empty goal.  Although the visitors created some opportunities in front of goal the back line of Graham, Carr, Wood, S Stanbury, Marchant and Hutchings never looked under pressure. MoM the match and Tavistock skipper Tom Honey had another top performance in midfield controlling the game for the home side.

Mens 2nd team: Bude A 3-2 TavistocK

This was certainly a game that could have and should on the day have been won.  Tavistock had a strong team, but were short on numbers when they visited fellow strugglers Bude.  Tavistock again started the brighter and were working the ball up the pitch with speed and precision. The passing game is really developing with Tavistock and this was evident in the early stages. After some great interplay from the back via the returning Tosdevin and the midfield, Tavistock slotted in the first goal.  Tavistock continued to press but a period of Bude pressure and an uncleared ball was passed under Osborne.  Tavistock continued to work hard, knowing they could grab the points and soon scored another via some more good work via Hanson, Honey and Anning and up to Elliott. Again Tavistock took the lead with a deserved goal. BThe game became more of an end to end battle and a cruelly deflected goal gave the home side the equaliser. They again scored via a well taken short corner.  Tavistock continued to hunt for the points but could not quite get the ball into the net, althoughthey came very close on a few occasions.
