Women's 1st team:
Tavistock 2-1 Exe 2's (Player of the match: Laura Armstrong & Susannah Boulle).
Tavistock secured their 3rd win of the season to move on to 9 points and move to joint first in the league. Both teams started well playing some fast flowing hockey but it was Tavistock who converted their chances into the first goal. Captain Laura Armstrong gave Tavistock the lead with a well struck penalty corner, Exe increased their pressure on the home sides goal without any luck and instead were caught on the break by a counter attacking Tavistock side. Mid way through the second half Exe scored from a well worked penalty corner, the home side almost hit back within 30 seconds but forward Sarah Law was denied by the post. After some fine defending from Jenny Pollock the home side mounted another attack which captain Armstrong converted with a well taken reverse stick shot following a great pass from midfielder Emma White.
Mens 1st team:
Tavistock 11-1 East Devon 2's (player of the match: Henry Chanberlain)
The home side were keen to impress today following their defeat away at Isca last week and it didn't take long to see the first goal. Youngster Barnaby Sargent-Megicks scored his first goal of the season to give Tavistock an early lead. Forward Si Fenwick scored another soon after, lifting the ball over the keeper before skipper Tom Honey scored his first goal of the season meaning the home side went into the break with a 3-0 lead. The goals continued in the second half with Fenwick scoring another 3 to take his tally to 10 for the season, forward Henry Chamberlain scored his first league goal of the season and then went on to complete his hatrick. Dom Stanbury scored a fantastic solo effort beating several defenders before calmly finishing with a fine shot to beat the keeper at his far post. Midfielder Andy Berry also got on the scoresheet with a rocket like shot from the edge of the D following some great play from midfield duo Ollie Richards and Dom Stanbury.
Mens 2nd team: Penzance A 3 Tavistock A 0
The annual bout of Penzanceitus kicked in, but with less damage than normal due to the larger squad and links with Mount Kelly College. The long journey gave the Tavistock side plenty of time to ponder the game and prepare for the match. Penzance started the brighter, moving the ball around but Tavistock stuck to the formation and marshalled the attacks with some ease. Matt Pugsley playing in goal for the first time, was a formidable presence and marshalled his defence well. John Ball and Toby Stanyer, playing their first game this season, looked bright on the left and linked well with the defence and attack. Toby took a nasty injury to the head during the second period and had to go to the hospital. Tavistock nearly broke the deadlock, when the attacking Tom Hanson linked with Honey and drove into the home D, but the powerful shot hit the post. The game really was a spectacle of end to end hockey but it was three mistakes that let Penzance score easy tap in goals, for a score line that did not reflect the game. Tavistock fought to the end and had plenty of chances to get themselves onto the score sheet, but could not quite get that last touch. Great effort by Josh Walker and Harry Donnelly, who both took took the attack to Penzance.
