Women's 1st Team Exeter University 4-2 Tavistock Player of the Match Elz Mills-Hicks

A disappointing away defeat meant Tavistock relinquished top spot in the league and dropped to 3rd place behind their match day opponents and Plymouth University.  After an even start it was Tavistock captain Laura Armstrong who cooly converted a penalty stroke to give her side the lead, the stroke was awarded for a foot on the line which denied forward Becky Lamb from scoring her 6th goal of the season. Lamb had been played through on goal by an incisive long ball from left back Susannah Boulle, the long ball and counter attack was a tactic that Tavistock used effectively throughout the match to break through the defence of the students. The home side hit back almost immediately from a penalty corner, this was followed a 3 quick goals giving the students a 4-1 lead. Not letting their heads drop, Tavistock attempted to play their style of quick passing and counter attacking hockey and were almost rewarded when in form striker Sarah Law broke free after another well executed through ball this time from skipper Armstrong.  Law was unable to convert on this occasion due to good play from the home sides keeper. Tavistock did get their second goal just before the break when centre back George Patterson converted a penalty corner.  The second half continued in much the same way with both teams very evenly matched in all departments.  Tavistock again hit the home side on the break thanks to Patterson's pin point pass to Lamb, unfortunately the Reds couldn't convert from the resulting penalty corner.  The home also had chances to score but were denied by keeper Zoe Viggers and Player of the Match Elz Mills-Hicks who saved a penalty corner attempt off the line, Mills-Hicks had another superb game in her new, more attacking role in midfield.

Men's 1st Team OPM A 0-6 Tavistock MoM Barny Megicks

Tavistock maintained top spot in South 2 with this away victory to a hard working OPM side. With the game at 0-1 at half time it was yet again the second half performance of Tavistock that unabled them to run out comfortable winners.  The first half goal came from in form utility player Ollie Richards who converted from close range, things could have been different if it had not been for the impressive OPM's keeper who made a number of fine saves to deny Fenwick, Honey, Jones and Megicks.  The Reds started the second half as they had played the first with quick passing to penetrate the home defence, the rewards came thanks to 2 goals in quick succession from Megicks and Fenwick. Defender Paul Marchant won the ball and quickly turned defence into attack with a cross field pas to find Fenwick who in turn found MoM Megicks in the D who deflected the ball in the roof of the net.  The game was held up following an unfortunate head injury to one of the OPM defenders, both sides did well to return to the pitch and continue to play in the fast flowing way they did following the break in the game. Quick attacks down the right hand side late on gave Tavistock their final 2 goals of the game from Megicks and Shephard respectively.

Mens 2nd Team Tavistock A 1  Dart A 3

This was a very gutsy performance from Tavistock who fought to the very end to get something out of this game. The home team were fielding a  strong side and had hoped to get some points from this encounter.  Tavistock certainly started the stronger and attacked the visitors goal constantly, with the attacking back Stanyer rampaging into the D and having his firm strike saved by the visiting keeper. This was a close encounter and Tavistock continued to press and came close again shortly after via Elliott.  It was an attacking short corner that broke out of the Dart D and swept down the pitch and was quickly slotted under the diving Pugsley.  Tavistock maintained their shape and attacking spirit but again went down to a break-away goal that was against the run of play.  Shortly after the break Tavistock managed to score following some determined pressure and slotted a well worked short corner via Elliott.  Tavistock were hunting for the equaliser and looked likely to get the score and with great linking again via Hanson, Honey and Anning were working the ball intelligently up the pitch. However, Tavistock were caught napping when Dart broke out again and scored the decisive winner to take the game.

Tavistock Ladies 2nds 3 - 0 Plym Valley 3rds

This was an exciting, fast paced match in which Tavistock had to work hard.  There was end to end play with both teams making breaks and creating opportunities.  The defence battled to limit shots while Tavistock goal keeper Eleanor Mills-Hicks made saves to keep a clean sheet.  The midfields worked non-stop up and down the pitch, feeding the ball through to the forwards.  Meg Bassett, Josie Francis and Rosie Crosby scored one goal each to give Tavistock the win.
