Men's First Team: Tavistock 5-1 ISCA
This game marked the half stage of the season and Tavistock were looking to maintaining their impressive start to the season. The Reds started well and took the lead inside ten minutes thanks to a clever finish from Bob Carr, the Tavistock forward showed the composure to take a touch and slip the ball on the turn past the keeper following a fast flowing passing move involving Marchant, Honey, Richards and Megicks. Mount Kelly student Ben Hancox scored for the third consecutive game with an instinctive finish following a pin point cross field pass from Rory Carr. Carr (Bob) was unlucky to have a later effort disallowed when his is attempt on goal, reminiscent of an Andy Murray serve was not given. Tavistock extended their lead early in the second half when Richards carried the ball forwards into the ISCA half before finding Fenwick who was able to beat his man before smashing the ball past the keeper, Fenwick doubled his tally for the game with a penalty flick he won after a being set up in front of goal by an incisive pass from skipper Tom Honey. Barney Megicks scored the final goal for Tavistock with a well taken reverse stick effort, the visitors scored the last goal of the game but it was too little too late for them. Despite conceding the late goal the Reds defence of R. Carr, S. Stanbury, Berry and Marchant looked as solid and composed as ever and enjoyed large periods of possession. The win keeps Tavistock 5 points clear of Duchy in second place and 11 points clear of PMHC who moved into third place today. Next week, the Reds host Sidmouth and Ottery in the last game before the Christmas break.
Torbay A 1 Tavistock A 2
This was always going to be a tough game, with both teams at the top of the division.
It was an attacking game from the start again, which does seem to be Tavistock’s trademark approach. Tavistock were controlling the game well, from the back all the way through the team.
As always Tavistock attacked at pace with Elliott, Walker and Orman, supported through the centre by Willets.
The teams were well balanced ands although Tavistock had plenty of chances which tested the home keeper, the deadlock could not be broken. Torbay were breaking and looked a skillfull side, but the new back line of Honey, Hanson, MacDougal and Venton managed to fend off any moves into the Tavi’ D.
It was towards the end of the first half that a final score was made, following numerous short corners and Willets slapped a goal into the net to give Tavistock a deserved lead.
He half finished with Torbay also having numerous shirt corners, but these were all defended well.
The tight encounter continued into the second half and early on with some Tavistock pressure mounting, a Torbay break found a loose player who fired in the equaliser.
This was the kick that Tavi’ needed and they upped their pace and control again. Wave after wave of attacks were hitting the Torbay defences and eventually a mazey run by Willets found Orman on the P spot and he hammered in the ball, which went through the backboards!
Torbay did not give up and with a masterful performance by Osborne who brought out some fine saves, Tavistock managed to maintain the lead and take all three points.
