Mens 1st Team: Tavistock 8-1 East Devon

Despite the 4-2 win away at East Devon earlier in the season the league leaders were expecting a tough game against a side who play good, structured hockey. With the game tied at 1-1 at half time it was going as expected with the visitors pressing the home side quickly and denying them time on the ball.  Tavistock took the lead when goal machine Mark Forshaw flicked a penalty corner low and hard past the keeper, before the home side had chance to build on the lead the visotrs had drawn level following some fine individual skill and shot beat Grahame in the Tavi goal. The first 10 minutes of the second half followed the pattern of the first with the home side having the majority of the possession but it was a moment of individual brilliance that changed the game. Former Mount Kelly student Barney Megicks ran 60 yards with the ball beating several players before his reverse stick shot beat the keeper at the far post.  The goal kick started the Reds and soon after Forshaw claimed his second of the game with another trademark thunderbolt that the keepr did not get close to saving.  From this point the goals just kept coming, Will Jones diving in at the far post scored the fourth after Forshaw gave up the chance for his hatrick to set up his fellow front man, the ever impressive Richards scored the fifth, after he won the ball in midfield he exchanged passes with Forshaw before deflecting the ball in with his reverse stick.  Skipper Tom Honey found himself unmarked in the D and was able to slap the ball home for the sixth goal before Dom Stanbury added another.  The final goal was scored by Richards who slipped the ball past the advancing keepr from a tight angle.  Next week ther Reds travel to Exeter to face ECV Hornets before Sunday's HA Vase game against Wootton Bassett, the prize for the winner is a place in the last 8 in the country, the game starts at 13.00 at the Mount Kelly astro.

Ladies 1st team: Tavistock 13 - 0 Penzance

Goals were not an issue today in the Ladies fixture against Penzance.
Armstrong put the first goal on the score sheet within the first few minutes of the game and Shillaws opening goal followed shortly after from some brilliant linking of forwards Lamb and Gaspar. The women worked hard to transfer the ball around the back line and had strict targets set by coach Fenwick which the women aimed to achieve in the first half. Gaspar and Nevin added to the goal talley in the first half with well worked efforts throughout the team and polished finishes. Tavistock dominated the first half of the game with a half time score of 9-0.
In the second half Penzance held off the home team for 20 minutes as their keeper kept their team out of danger with some solid saves. Tavistock won a number of corners however were kept at bay by the away team. Tavistock soon found form again with another 4 goals finding the back of the net in the second half settling the final score as 13-0. This puts the ladies into 3rd in league by goal difference, they meet 4th spot Caradon away next weekend.

Teign A  1. Tavistock A. 3

After last weeks disappointing result, it was important that Tavistock performed well and got the right result against the table topping Teign.

Tavistock were fielding a strong youthful side and immediately started to apply pressure on the home defence.

With Willets marshalling the midfield and Orman running the forward line, Tavistock were looking dangerous and creating chances.

It was early in the game when Orman created enough space, following some good interplay, to hammer home the first goal.

The game really was one of an end to end type and Teign were always dangerous, but the more mature defensive line of Anning, Stanyer, Gott and MacDougal were always in control. Pugsley in goal for his first in many months was immense, and dominated his area.

Although chances were coming for both sides, Tavistock created another opportunity, following some great interplay between Hancox and Donnely, which allowed Orman to hammer in the second.

The tension never let go and Teign continued to attack, but following some super covering by MacDougal, he cleared a long ball out of defence, which took a deft touch from Willets into the path of Hancox, who slotted the Tavi' third.

Teign never gave up and they managed to score their only goal after some confusion in the defence when Pugsley was instructed to leave a ball that was assumed to have been struck from outside the D!

Next week is another tough encounter away to PGSOB C.
