Match Report

Tavistock Men's 1st X1 suffered their first defeat of the season succumbing to a 3 - 4 loss against Falmouth 1st X1. Tavistock found themselves 3 nil down after 20 minutes although several of the goals were against the run of play. Tavistock started to compete better in the middle of the park and were unlucky to go in at halftime 3 nil down. The second half ensured Tavistock came out a different team and pulled a goal back almost straight from the pushback with Matt Pearson firing in an excellent shot from the top of the D. It was all Tavistock pressure but they couldn't score a second goal quick enough. Falmouth scored a 4th on a well-worked counterattack. Tavistock then played the best hockey of the game with some excellent play down the right resulting in Nick Andrews scoring the home side's second and shortly after captain, Josh Walker scored Tavistock's third after Jimmy Berry's initial shot had come back off the post. Falmouth's defence stood firm and whilst Tavistock threw everything at them, they just couldn't find the equaliser. Whilst a small setback, Tavistock stays top of the league because of a superior goal difference over Falmouth. The man of the match award was shared between Jimmy Berry and Matt Pearson and Donkey of the day went to Josh Walker. Tavistock look to get back to winning ways next Saturday when they travel down to Penzance.
