Match Report

Tavistock Men's traveled down to Camborne today to play Duchy and secured another league win in their quest to get promoted into Piran 1. The team arrived on time after safety negotiating the snow-affected A30 at Bodmin and was greeted by a cold and snow-covered pitch. However, it was decided to give it a go and see what happened. Due to pitch conditions, it took several minutes for Tavistock to get into their stride and play the free flowing high tempo hockey that has become a trademark for them this season. After some fine work on the right-hand side, Jimmy Berry opened the scoring for the visitors with a well-taken finish. Tavistock doubled their lead when Mark Forshaw drilled in his first of the game and Tavistock seconds. Duchy who were completely outplayed in the first 20 minutes scored against the run of play when a quick breakaway resulted in the Duchy striker evading keeper Matt Grahame. The visiting team upped their game and scored two quick goals before halftime, one was a well-worked short corner routine for Andy Berry and the fourth one was scored by superbly converted on the spin by Nick Andrews. The halftime score was 4 - 1 to Tavistock. With the temperature dropping and the pitch becoming icier underfoot, Tavistock was keen to restart the second half as soon as possible before the next incoming heavy shower covered the pitch. Tavistock passed the ball around with speed and accuracy for the majority of the second half and created numerous chances. Mark Forshaw rifled in a bullet of a shot to make it 5 - 1. Jimmy Berry then calmly scored his second goal and Tavistock's sixth goal by slotting it past the advancing keeper. The highlight of the day was when Martin Walker was presented with a chance to open his scoring by good play from his son and Captain, Josh Walker, and duly obliged. Walker senior lifted his shot over the keeper and cue scenes for Tavistock's seventh goal!!!!!! . Final score was Duchy 1 Tavistock 7. A great game played in the right spirit and one that has confirmed Tavistock as the outright league leader after securing this 9th league win out of 9 on the trot. Man of the match went to Martin Walker for a sublime finish and Donkey of the day went to Andy Berry for snapping his stick in the warm-up! A well-earnt rest for the team now beckons and they resume on 7th Jan at 4:30 pm pushback versus Truro.
