Match Report |
Tavistock Men's 1sts hosted Caradon 2nds today at the MK pitch which on paper would prove to be their biggest test of the season so far. Tavy came flying out of the blocks and nearly scored in the first minute but for a fine save from the Caradon keeper. The home team kept up the pressure and it was Captain Josh Walker who opened the scoring when he reacted quickest to his initial shot that had come back of the post and rounded the keeper to make it 1 nil to Tavistock. The first half ebbed and flowed with Tavistock having the majority of possession but Caradon posed a real threat on the counterattack. Mark Forshaw settled Tavy's nerves with a trademark reverse stick strike into the bottom far corner. The half ended with Tavistock 2 nil to the good and improving their structure for the second half was the main aim. Forshaw scored his second and the home team's third early in the second half which then prompted Tavistock to up their game and play their natural free-flowing, high-tempo hockey. Some excellent play between Jimmy Berry and Dom Walker resulted in Ben Sealey scoring his first of the season to make it 4 nil. After winning his team a penalty flick, Jimmy Berry stepped up to cooly convert and score his team's fifth goal. Wave after wave of attacks was thwarted by the visiting keeper and great last-ditch defending from Caradon. Tom Honey sealed a dominant display in the center of the park with a well-taken goal after a mazy run into the D saw him beat the advancing keeper. The final score was Tavistock 6, Caradon 0. Man of the match was emphatically won by Ed Cull who totally dominated the opposition strikers and kept their shot count to an absolute minimum. Donkey of the day went to Dee Kirwin for his green card. Tavistock will play their final league of 2022 when they head West next week to play Duchy down at Camborne and will be aiming to make it 9 straight wins of the season.
