Match Report |
Tavistock Mens 1st travelled down to Plymouth to play against Devonport Service 2nds who were riding high in their league and who would provide a first real test for the team. Captain Josh Walkers stirring team talk in horrendous weather conditions was duly applied and Tavy started the game with fast high tempo pressing hockey. After a few narrow misses from the front three, Jimmy Berry opened the scoring by weaving his way into the D and beating the advancing keeper with a cheeky nutmeg. Many more scoring opportunities came and went in the first half but the half ended 1 - 0. With rain coming across the pitch horizontally, the half time was short and sweet. Tavy upped their game and became alot more clinical in the scondhalf. Josh Walker scored a quick double with both goals leaving the keeper flat footed with the power of his shooting. He duly completed his hatrick with another fine effort slotting into the far corner to make it 4 nil to Tavy. Martin Walker came agonisingly close to scoring his debut goal this season when the ball hit the post and rolled across the line before hitting the other post and being cleared away. This was a great result which keeps them top of the league and in fine form going into next week's game home verus Caradon. Man of the match went to Ollie Kidd and Donkey went to Matt Pearson.
