Match Report

Tavistock Men's made the short journey to Okehampton for their local derby today. After last week's slow start the team came out all guns blazing and high-tempo hockey. Mark Forshaw opened the scoring after Andy Berry's shot had struck the upright and kindly fell into Forshaw's path. Okehampton immediately responded on the counter and executed a well-worked goal to bring the sides level. This spurred Tavistock to go through the gears and to play some crisp fast hockey in and around the D. Andy Berry scored midway through the half and this was quickly followed by two more goals from Nick Andrews and Bart Grainger. Both sides went in at halftime with Tavistock 4 - 1 to the good. The second half was wave after wave of attacks from Tavistock and a further 6 goals were scored in reply to a consolation for Okehampton including right-back John Campbell who went on a surging run before firing past the Okehampton keeper. The final score was 10 - 2 to Tavistock. Goal scorers Mark Forshaw 4, Nick Andrews 2, Bart Grainger 2, John "Postman" Campbell 1, and Andy Berry 1. Man of the match was shared between goal machine Forshaw and Zak Briggs who made his first league appearance of the season in goal and made some excellent crucial saves. Next week the team aims to stay on top of the table and make it 6 wins out of 6 when they entertain a youthful Plymouth University side.
