L1's: Tavistock 3-3 Exeter University -Player of the Match Georgia Donnelly

After coming from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 away at White Eagles last week the Reds knew they needed to start quickly against Exeter Uni.  Unfortunately for the home side didn't go to plan, despite the better of the early chances it was the visitors who scored the opening goal of the game from a penalty corner, the initial shot was cleared off the line by defender Elz Mills-Hicks but it was the uni players who recited fastest and put away the rebound. Despite going behind the Reds continued to look dangerous in attack, Gaspar showing good skill on the ball and Armstrong, Donnely Benton, and Lindsey looking to cause the Uni defence problems with some incisive runs. The new midfield pairing of Janice Scott and Sarah Payne was working well and helping Tavistick to maintain possession of the ball.  The visitors doubled their lead early in the second half following an attack down the right hand side of the pitch.  Tavistock showed the determination that salvaged a point last week and they were in the accent envy when Geoirgia Donnelly showed great composure to eliminate her marker before pushing the ball past the Uni keeper, Mount Kelly College student Eve Lindsey found herself unmarked at the back post and was able to take a touch before striking the ball at goal to bring the score line to 2-2.  The Reds received another boost when with 10 minutes remaining, influential forward Becky Lamb arrived after returning from a school fixture.  Lamb instantly looked to make an impact on the gas, and set off on one of her trademark runs, she carried the ball along the back line before crossing to last seasons top scorer Laura Armstrong who coolly converted on her reverse to put the home side in the lead.    Despite having the majority of possession and looking the more dangerous in attack Tavistock could not hold onto their lead and with just seconds remaining Exeter managed to grab an equaliser to mean for second successive week Tavistock with a 3-3 draw. With a new look team this season it has been a positive start to the league, next week sees Tavistock travel to Penzanze who will be looking for their first points of the season.
