Match Report

Marjons made the the short trip to Tavistock in confident mood following their victory against Duchy last week which had resulted in the Plymouth side jumping above their Cornish rivals and into the second promotion spot behind the already crowned champions Tavistock. The game was tied 0-0 at half time, Marjons enjoyed the majority of possession but the hosts had gone closest to scoring when Barney Megicks was unfortunate not to deflect the ball in at the far post mid way through the half. With the visitors in need of the points to maintain second place the game followed a predictable style with the home side happy to soak up the pressure and hit Marjons on the break, the Reds defence has been a strength this season and again looked unlikely to be broken in this game. Tavistock took the lead early in the second half when Mark Forshaw eliminated the number one runner at a penalty corner before smashing the ball past the keeper. Tavistock scored two goals in quick succession to secure the three points, forward Si Fenwick ran through on goal and on both occasions and faced the advancing keeper, the first chance was converted by Mount Kelly student Ben Hancox who had made a lever run beyond the keeper. A few minutes later an identical chance presented itself but his time Fenwick  was able to slip the ball to Forshaw for his second of the game. The victory maintains Tavistocks 100% season with 20 wins from 20 league games with just two games to go. Next week sees Tavistock host Torbay in their final home game of the season, this should prove interesting as the sides meet two weeks later in Torbay in the Devon Trophy Semi Final.
